  1. so I was just thinking about how my travel experience is pretty lame and I have never been out of the country or anything and was thinking about planning a road trip up to canada in the future... I live in central illinois so what area of Canada would be the most fun for a 23 year old guy who likes to drink and gamble? I'm looking for something that isn't tooooo far like montreal seems like a long way because I kind of want to do the road trip thing. I was thinking about seeing if some of my buddies wanted to go after they graduate college.

what would you advise for canadian trips near the midwest

i also enjoy the outdoors a lot with hunting/fishing or just seeing the wilderness so the big city nightlife isn't the biggest concern.. i just wanna check out the brothers to the north

  2. I live just north of chicago. Last year we went to Toronto through Detroit. Hung out there for a while and then went to Niagra Falls and came back home through Buffalo. They have casinos in Detroit and Niagra Falls. Don't think they have anything in Toronto but I'm not sure.
  3. Toronto. End thread. I love that city.
  4. how long did that trip take?

There's really no reason to leave British Columbia

  7. Montreal > Vancouver > Toronto > Edmonton/Calgary. Anywhere else isn't worth going in this country.

Pretty ignorant statement... the East Coast of Canada is beautiful.
  9. Coming from where you are coming from i suggest stopping in Windsor (right on the way)for a few nights, another awesome city with casinos and then heading up to Toronto.

  10. Chicago to Toronto 520 miles

    Chicago to Vancouver 2,198 miles

    Chicago to Montreal 850

    Chicago t0 Edmonton 1633

I enjoyed Montreal and Toronto equallt. Loved the walled part of Montreal and all the frenchies. felt like I was in France.
  11. If you want to make it a poker / fishing / golfing trip:

    - drive up to Windsor casino right across from Detroit
    - drive up to Toronto (about 3-1/2 hours) and check out a ball game, Toronto harbor etc.
    - drive another hour north to Casino Rama where you can do the golf / fishing / pokers
    - drive down to Niagara to do more pokers / golf and sight seeing at the falls
    - back home you go.

  13. Im not condoning drinking and driving but my friends and i have had many awesome road trips from detroit, then to windsor, then up to toronto. We'd get a cooler and fill it up with beers/liquor and just drive that route stopping at a bar in every little crappy city along the way for a drink or 2. Pretty awesome/fun time
  14. I love the River Rock in Vancouver.

The subway system in Vancouver is so good. No car or cabs needed.

    Good action pokerwise.

  16. Windsor then Toronto would be good that way your not driving 8+ hours. Toronto is the best the in the WORLD
  17. everyone is going to obviously defend their home city.

heres some info about toronto though

Toronto the unhappy: A study conducted by the Canadian Centre for the Study of Living Standards has found that despite having the country's largest GDP and population, the megacity ranks lowest on the happiness scale.

Probably the only place I wouldnt want to visit in Canada is Alberta

Eastern Canada is high on my list though.
  18. Go slumming in Quebec, Pooperhead will meet up with you and wingman it, bang some slutty 5's, drink milk from a bag, ez game.
  19. we go to whistler every year. LOOOOVE it. downtown vancouver is alot of fun too...kinds reminds me of seattle.

don't forget to get an enhanced driver's license...it will help you cross the border with no hassles. go to your local dov with your birth certificate and social security card. i don't remember how much it cost...i think around $30...but def worth it.

  22. If Ontario is your destination, ignore Toronto. Just another big city, with the attendant night-spots, theatre, etc. Nothing you cannot find in Chicago . . .

Hit Niagara Falls, as it is truly a spectacular thing to see. Do all the stupid touristy things (Maid of the Mist, Gorge tour, etc.) to get the full scope of the site. There are casinos right at the Falls, on both sides of the border, so that can cover your gambling fix.
Orillia, for the fishing, is good advice. Rama is an okay casino experience I guess . . .

If you really want a long road trip to take in some scenery, try the following:

Drive to the Falls, and stay a while, doing your sightseeing and gambling.
Head northfrom Niagara, and hug the coast of the Great Lakes all the way around the North Shore of Superior. There are some fantastic things to see, nature-wise, that you will see nowhere else in the world.
Head back down into the States and home, from Thunder Bay, ON.
  23. if you SERIOUSLY like the outdoors/wilderness Algonquin Provincial Park is the only way to go. convenient to Toronto either coming or going, but you have never experienced wilderness like this in Illinois. park is the size of Rhode Island and Connecticut combined. no motors (boats or land vehicles) except on 3 entry lakes. Canoe and carry what you need on your back. Learn how to read a map and a compass or don't go! Done it 3 times and I can't wait to go back.

  24. if ur going to do anything with Canada talk to Karner...he use to drive all the way to Toronto every now and then for Bagpipe practices.... also all those bagpipers are from canada

    This.

Except for the "few nights" in Windsor part. Windsor ain't been the same since all of Michigan became unemployed. Still worth a night to break the drive up though.
  27. try the syrup, I hear it's to die for!

  29. I use to play poker regularly at Casino Windsor, now Caesars Windsor. Really nice place and some nice bars in the casino. Drinks are somewhat expensive but it's a great environment. Downtown Windsor (walking distance from casino), has a strip of bars/clubs that are usually pretty fun. Slowed down a little in the last few years but still a great place to gamble and drink. Check out Oullette Ave, that's where all the busy bars/clubs are.
