  1. AT&T internet was the only available service in my area when we moved here about 3 years ago and we have begun having some issues with them as of late. I was calling around trying to find other providers and was told that no one else services where we live with "high" (3mps) speed internet. However, the guy I was talking to (a competitor, FWIW) said that since we are no longer under contract with AT&T that his advice was to call and cancel service with them and to start over with another contract to get $24.99 intro rate instead of the $40/month that we are paying now. My question is if this will actually work. Has anyone done this before, specifically with AT&T?
  2. Phone AT&T. Ask to speak with someone in "Customer Retention". Explain to this person that you have been unhappy with your service of late. Explain that you are considering cancelling your service with them unless they can give you a compelling reason not to. You might end up with an even better rate than the intro offer . . . and you can always cancel and restart later if it does not work out. When you do restart, try not to use the exact same name as on your original account. Add or delete you middle initial or something so that it does not get flagged.
