  1. I'm looking for a used truck and I've found a few that I like, but I'm a total idiot when it comes to negotiating prices. I work 6 days a week and sunday is usually my day off when most dealerships are closed. I found one I really like but it's about an hour and a half away... I dont want to waste my time going over there unless I know that they are willing to budge on the price. It's listed at $23,500 but I'd like to stay around $19k if I can. What's my play? Call them and just say I'm not coming to look at it unless you come off $3-4k? Help please
  2. Are you pre-approved for a loan and are you willing to buy it on the spot if you like the truck?

What's the value of the truck? If you're trying to lowball the hell out of 'em, don't bother. If they are overpricing it, then you might be able to drop a few thousand off the price.

I would use the Blue Book value as a starting point as to the absolute most you'll pay for it. Then, if there is anything wrong with the truck, knock some $$ off your offer. Also, if you're ready to buy on the spot, knock some more $$ off.

Again, if you're just trying to get them to take $4k off the price just because you don't want to spend that much, then don't bother and instead focus on a truck that's more in your price range. If you think that $23.5k is way overpriced, then make them an offer and meet somewhere in the middle.
