He had his chances imo. Obviously, they figured he was not going to be productive. They see him everyday in practice brah.

  7. I agree......he's had ample opportunity....job was his, lost it to warner, warner retired and still couldn't win job.......just seems to be if you're not named steve young you can't be a southpaw qb in the nfl

  8. I think he felt entitled to the job, and that was his undoing. Was a heisman pretty boy at USC, #1 draft pick with big salary and probably felt like he deserved to play, when the reality of the fact is no one is entilted to play in "the league". Now he'll get to see that you ain't entitled to shit in this league and have to work to get into the game. No more fat salaries for you, sir, and get used to the bench.
  9. lol. bye bye cardnials you have nothing now. anderson def isnt gonna do shit. wonder where leinart will end up?

The Arizona Cardinals will release quarterback Matt Leinart, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Leinart went in to the offseason as the heir apparent to Kurt Warner as quarterback of the pass-happy Cardinals but was unable to distinguish himself from free agent acquisition Derek Anderson in the eyes of head coach Ken Whisenhunt.
Earlier in the week, Arizona was seeking to trade the former first round pick with the Buffalo Bills, Oakland Raiders and New York Giants having been involved in discussions, league sources told Schefter on Wednesday. Instead, the Cardinals look to move away from their top selection in the 2006 draft.
Leinart bristled at the brewing quarterback controversy this preseason.
"I don't really know what else I could possibly do," Leinart said Monday. "It probably goes beyond football, beyond the field actually. For me, I am not making excuses. I am not going to complain. For me, I just really want an explanation and I haven't been given one."
On Tuesday, Whisenhunt sat down with Leinart with the coach describing the conversation as "a good talk."
With Leinart out of Arizona, the Cardinals look to a pair of rookies -- Max Hall and John Skelton -- to back up Anderson.
Information from ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter is included in this report.

  10. Leinart was not given a fair opportunity at all. This is a big mistake by the cardinals. He was in maybe 8 possessions all preseason and the last game against Washington they called only 2 passes. For him and the rest were runs. It all came.down to he is not Wis' "Guy". D Anderson sucks balls and will be benched by the fourth game guaranteed. Max hall looks really good and has tremendous upside but is a true rookie. I hope Matt can do well and show the cards what a mistake they made by releasing him.

Nah, they see him in practice and behind the scenes in meetings. How long has he been with the Cardinals? He just does not have "it"
Maybe "it" can be found again with his old coach Carroll.

Edit: Max Hall will get torn up by first teamers. You better believe that Patrick Willis is licking his chops right now...

  13. he'll get 1 more shot but he's done soon
  14. You can't emulate a true game in practice just sayin. But leinart >>>>>>>>> Anderson. I truly believe That the cards feel hall is their qb of the future And Are bypassing their time w Anderson Cause they didn't Want to pay Matt his ridiculous contract next year (12-14m? I Think)
  15. in all reality, the NFL was probably a huge let down for him, he was the king of Southern Cal....a college kid who celebrities wanted to hang out with in hollywood, I can almost guarantee that's why he stayed another year at USC....when he got to the NFL he was just another rookie with all the built up pressure.

But you can determine leadership and attitude in practice. Two huge reasons as to why he was cut today.
  17. The players and coaches were not behind him. GG

I'm 93% sure AJ makes VJ sit and wont trade him. AJ is a prick and doesnt like to be shown up. Same with Mcneil.

  19. He isn't a leader or a guy you want in your locker room. Just look how he handles himself in interviews.

  20. lol @ not given a chance.

i really doubt that the players part is true. people were saying that leinart was outperforming anderson in camp just a few weeks ago. i think all the "oh the players aren't behind him" is just propaganda from the organization. anderson is horrible.

    great article re: anderson: http://www.pro-football-reference.com/blog/?p=7180

  22. I dont think he was given much of a chance to do well. He started slow and they stuck Warner in and Warner took the job full time. Now he is given no oppurtunity to play his way back into the spot now that Warner retired.....

hope he goes to the AFC imo

  24. He hasn't had the entitlement thing beaten out of him after 4 years and infinite millions of dollars, doesn't really seem like a terrible decision. The guy has contributed less over his NFL career than JaMarcus Russell...

Maybe throwing to Mike Williams in Seattle will fix him. Too bad the 'Hawks already cut LenDale.

    this is pretty spot on.
  26. The cardinals are going into the season with max hall and john skelton as their back up qbs.

sigh. As soon as they get out of the doldrums they go rushing right back.

As for the people saying he had his chance... He's only had 17 nfl starts.

In the context of quarterbacks, that's such a remarkably small sample size.
  27. i might feel entitled too if i did way better than my main competitor in the preseason and didn't get the job anyway

  28. Lol Matt Leinart had season ending injuries his first two seasons in the NFL then partially as a result lost his job to a future hall of fame quarterback. He was never a starting quarterback for a full season. The only year he had a significant sample was his rookie year where he had some (relative) success.

I understand you are an NFL player and have all this fame and money and are not entitled to anything, but he has every right to be disappointed and frustrated.

I'm not saying hes a great quarterback and doing my best to not come off like a homer, but those of you saying he was given every opportunity and just failed on the field are just wrong.
  29. lest we forget, he would've beat the titans last year if not for:
