1. so i have a cat who jumps on my 2nd floor railing but i'm afraid he's going to slip one day and fall to the first floor (15-20 foot drop)

is there anything i can do besides just block off the stairs going up?

2. Your cat will be fine, even if he does fall, he will land on his feet.
3. there is a 6% chance the cat will ever fall..... there is a 0.0025% he will be hurt by a fall from a 2nd story railing... :)
4. you could grow some balls... your cat obv has bigger ones than you

my cat fell from 15-18 feet from 2nd story to the grass below and my cat is kinda big and he was perfectly fine.
19. Cats that fall from the range of 2-6 stories high are actually more likely to get injured/die than a cat that falls from 7-30 stories high. Look up feline pesematology.

All earthbound falling objects (including cats) will accelerate only up to a certain speed known as terminal velocity at which point air resistance becomes strong enough to counter-balance gravity. For falling humans terminal velocity is around 130 mph but its less than half that speed for a plummeting pussycat. Once terminal velocity is reached, the sensation of falling diminishes. The cats are thought to relax once this happens causing them land in a better position and explaining why falls from higher floors seem to be more survivable.
