  1. Saying "soccer is not a sport" or responding with "baseball is not a sport" is a great take btw, even though soccer sucks to watch and has zero fanbase in the US. Same as saying the Olympics has no sports involved.

nit pick on tho, same thing, like i said...US soccer is the farm league of soccer
  3. I dunno sometimes athletes in other sports do well with the crossover. Like the figure skater from Mighty Ducks...

Minor League Baseball is as much MLB baseball as the Big-10 is the NFL.

An 8th grade league in the US is not real soccer. He was faster than everyone and more athletic, it is doubtful he ever actually played against any real soccer players.

Reason: lol that was pretty good though
  9. im so glad vorh33s dominated this thread on the first page so I didnt have to. Everyone with even a slight bit of intelligence knows that the best athletes in the U.S. play football or basketball. People who cant excel in real sports play soccer. Its no secret. I guarantee you the term "soccermom" only exist in America.

    i lol'd

mls is where either good players go to make a bit of cash at the end of their careers/ players that arent good enough for european leagues play and then maybe a few that are good enough just dont want to leave usa but that is a very small number. But i still doubt that he could make it on to any team based solely on skill
  11. It is cool of him to bring my club some free publicity. We will be celebrating our home opener at our new soccer only stadium on June 9th. Sporting ftw!

Since Big-10 players never succeed in the NFL, right? Tom Brady anyone?

Beat me too it shootie, didn't see image before posting :(
  16. Ya he has a 0% chance at making the MLS if that is how he is playing. I am better than him at the moment and I haven't touched a ball but a few times in the last half year. If he makes it, Either because they want publicity or they really feel like he could put the time in to improve. Either way, he isn't very good from what I saw in this video.

he may practice with them a bit, play with the reserves, but he wont play with the first squad in an official mls match. obv its for publicity, i dont think anyone believes otherwise.

  23. People saying soccer isn't a sport just make me laugh. And other people saying soccer is just "kicking a ball" make me laugh even more. If that is your argument then

Baseball is hitting a ball and running around
Basketball is running down a court and throwing a ball into a basket
Football is running across the field with a ball

Usually the people who say "soccer isn't a sport" are teh same people who have never played soccer.
I play/played soccer all of my life. Also I have played football and basketball all of my life, and by far soccer takes the most endurance to play, plus "handling" a ball with your feet is a lot harder then it looks. Hell, just look at the videos of Ocho cinco and see how kind of awkward he is with the ball, then look at a video of lionel messi or christiano ronaldo handling a ball and you can tell the huge difference.

Personally I think its awesome he is trying out, yeah it kind of sucks for the people who have worked hard all their life and never get the chance to try out for a major team and Ocho gets to try out just cause of his status, but hey, thats life. It is also great to see he is pretty humble and really trying to learn the sport. He will always be my favorite NFL player and its great to see him being open to anything and just doing it for fun
  24. Basketball has set plays.
    Football is all about plays.
    Baseball has situational plays.

I don't see the strategy in soccer, it looks all the same to me. From kick ins to throw ins to just random guy streaking down the pitch every play to get stopped by 3 defenders, or to make a pass to get it called back by offsides. Which is a rule I'll never understand. Why should you be penalized for being faster than the other player? /shrug

However just because ochocinco played some 8th grade soccer doesn't mean he can jump into the mls, no matter how watered down it may be.
  25. Soccer has situational plays as well. Corner kicks and set pieces (free kicks from the field) have different plays as well.

Offsides has nothing to do with being faster, it has to do with the last line of defense. If i am on offense and I am behind the line of defense and my teamate kicks me the ball, i am offsides. If I am even and/or in front of last line of defense and the ball is passed to me or my direction and I outrun the D, its not offsides. hope that made sense.

When you first learn soccer you learn to make a triangle at all times with your teammates so you always have someone to pass too, in hte higher levels you notice how much people are moving and who is the main person to set it up etc etc.

It is a lot more complicated, but the pros just make it look so easy

the fact that soccer doesn't have set plays every possession is part of the beauty of the game. it requires a ton of creativity and ability to improvise and combine with teammates in a ton of different ways. other sports also have this to some degree, i just think that while teams do have systems of play and some overall strategy they hope to use, there is so much room for a player to create in the game. basketball is prob next closest of the sports u mentioned in regards to this.

and yea like other guy said, offsides doesnt work that way.

IMO hockey is similar to soccer as far as free flowing creativity go during game play.
