If this was all one elaborate scheme to take $9,600, he probably would have been better off conjuring up a much bigger score somehow.
I agree with the above, the $9,600 situation sucks, but even without that or even if he did get hacked, I just have no respect for anyone who asks for money the way he has repeatedly done, or "settling" a repayment of a loan, implying it was not for the entire amount. So many people are like this in this world, they expect things to be given to them without having to work for them. I can't stand this false sense of entitlement that I see so often (I can give you many stories from my small business working with people day in and day out).
I no longer hold the money for my group of friends with our football, baseball and basketball fantasy leagues because I have eaten on average 1-2 buy ins for every league I have hosted. Just goes to show that friends, and friends of friends will screw you out of a $50 fantasy baseball buy in without blinking. Hey, $50 is way more valuable than integrity right? -
i didn't set an O/U officially, but in this thread, I did make the comment "120 thread pages", which may or may not occur, depending on whether this remains the primary thread...

Also the part in the blog about no monetary gain cornfuses me. 10k isn't a gain?

Why then, would the "hacker" post this in chaz's blog for the rest of us to see? basically saying "ha, ha, i got ya chaz, they're gonna think its you and not me!"
what the fuck? -
They are con men , they are good at what they do. PERIOD

no, the 'blogger' was trying to suggest that he's already wealthy, so 10k means nothing to him.
no hacker would ever in a million years write a blog about it. never ever. if i'm proven wrong, ill eat my words, literally, i will print this page and eat the paper. -
theoretically, a hacker not interested in monetary gain wouldn't be interested in gambling either.
And this is if there was any possible reason to believe that a hacker wrote that blog. Or to believe that a hacker then decided to pull the blog piece, once decimating evidence was being revealed showing that there is fact no way that it was written by a hacker. -
Enjoyed reading your thoughts BGX.
Several lessons/reminders are evident --
Don't loan money to poker players. While a few might pay you back, you will be disappointed more often than not.
Anyone holding funds needs to have a job and sufficient personal funds to make good on the amount held. The persons seeking the holder need to inquire as to account security precautions. If you fail to do so you are assuming the risk of theft/loss. Anyone offering to hold for free is a red flag. BTW and fwiw, there are federal criminal laws that pertain to sports betting.
If a person you hardly know is asking you for money, it is usually because their credit is shot with all the friends and family they have. This is a huge red flag.
OT is a great and generally trusting place. That makes us a target. Don't send any funds to third parties that you cannot live without.
Based on my experience working with criminals and putting them away...this is very likely an inside job. The closest analgous "routine crime" is when a person working with cash tips off a buddy on a good time for the hold-up. This is easier to pull off than taking what is in the register and trying to disappear as your employer has your name and address. Like BGX, I hope this is incorrect.
I represented hundreds of soldiers accused of various crimes from murder to minor theft. There was only a single time when the person "admitted" the offense to me. Usually the lies continued all the way to the military prison. -
If you believe the blog it's saying it was about revenge, not money. It's about ruining Chaz's reputation on this site.

These threads are exactly what the bad guy wants, supposedly...
Or it's some reverse-psychology shit, and it's exactly what the bad guy doesn't want, because the bad guy is chaz. -
ah, the blog just helps build the web.

A Chicago writer just ate his old article that said Joakim Noah would be a bust or he would eat his article. He followed through, I expect the same from you!

after reading this thread i am convinced that some people here had their brain removed at birth

I didn't read the OP or the thread but here are my thoughts on the situation:
The situation is fucked. At first, I saw him as a nice guy but as time went on, I realize many things that I don't like about him. He is a very cocky dude. Defitnetly the dude in the Jersey house with the worst personality. He thought he had Sammi Sweetheart in the bag when in reality all she wanted was to fuck Ronnie. He's pretty ripped and handsome, yet he has failed to get laid in two episodes. Partially it wasn't his fault, as in the second episode angelina the cockblock did not help.
Overall, I wouldn't like to hang out with the situation. He is truly a douchebag. I could see myself hanging out with the other guys in the house as they seem pretty legit and fun even tho Pauly D takes the guido apprearance too far and Ronnie is so jacked on steroids. Vinny is like that fun friend that does crazy shit when we go out. The chicks are just batshit crazy.
I can't wait for episode 3. -

I thought the rest of your earlier post was well-said and spot on tho, Wein...
If someone gets drunk and drives and kills someone, does this mean we have to ban alcohol? You cannot let a one-off bad situation ruin something that the majority of people can enjoy responsibly, even if it happens multipe times, like SchruteRules.
I do not have a "network of friends" I can draw upon for interest in contests, in fact, most people on this site probably hate me. But if we could not do our annual handicapping contest on here, it would mega suxor and I would not know how to get even half the turnout for it just thru non-P5s methods. I love these contests and miss competing against BGX (great post sir) and if we have fall-off now, or outright banaments I think it would be a tragedy. -
I don't know Chaz or any people on here, but after reading what has been said about him I couldn't help to be reminded of a situation in high school. The "popular" kids would go around and be nice to the "unpopular" kids at lunch. They would chat it up with them and the unpopular kids loved the fact that a popular kid was talking to them. After a little chat, the popular kid would ask them for any pocket change they had, which the unpopular kid was more than happy to give it up since they were being nice. At the end of lunch the popular kids would easily have a easy $10 or $20 taking advantage of their reputation by simply being nice.
