  1. I'm looking at doing some traveling around Europe starting sometime in March or so. I'm just feeling overwhelmed with trying to find the cheapest flights over there cause I have no idea the best place to fly into or day of the week. My travel plans are totally open, all I know is I'll have a friend in the Netherlands that I want to visit and I ultimately want to make it to Italy for an extended stay. Ticket would most likely be 1 way so I can keep my plans open, would fly standby if possible, and I would be traveling with another person. So any advice on getting over there on the cheap would be awesome.
  2. by boat.

  3. In all seriousness, I've used www.1800flyeurope.com twice with great success... Flew JFK to Rome then Milan back to JFK 2 weeks later for a total of $425 which included all fees and fuel, but this was a few years back and I doubt you can still get that kind of deal... but it usually advertises great deals.

ahh to find a love like they had...

  6. FYI - you can't fly standby and you will need a roundtrip ticket, unless you have proof of some type of work or something... you'll just have to make it for a period in the future and then attempt a standby flight back with or without fees...I believe.

  7. While in Europe, (assuming you eventually get there), http://www.ryanair.com/en
  8. Ryanair is the shit! Flew from London to Lyon, France for $21.
  9. Hmm didnt even think about needing a round trip ticket. I heard about a $400 roundtrip ticket deal to Ireland that ends this month but can't seem to find it. Thanks for that ryanair link. Will probably come in handy, but I'm also looking into getting a train pass also. Guess I could always jetski there. So is there a certain day that's cheaper to fly international or what?

  10. I'll save you a lot of time asking for answers to what you want:

Start searching every travel site online and trial and error different combinations. You really will not know until you start doing the research. Try different airport combos on different days, etc... If you are flexible try a different month - March can be a busy travel time to Europe because a lot of people get vacation during that time.

It's not as easy as saying 'search on Tuesday' - I usually spend hours upon hours planning out my trips to make sure I get the best deals.
  11. 1. Get UB hat
    2. Find person that desperately wants UB hat
    3. ??????
    4. Profit
  12. Grab seat sale to London..any of the airports then fly Ryan air for almost nadda anywhere. My mother in law flew to Ireland for 9 pounds and then did train to Paris from England then Italy for around $200 pounds open rail ticket by far best way.
  13. Also, im sure this is a no brainer, but try and travel on a weekday as weekend travel prices seem to usually be higher.
  14. 2 things Best sale fares are posted around midnite on monday and tuesday nite. Clear out your cookies between 1 search and the next. The travel sites put cookies in your comp, so next time you search yoy,ll get the same deals if the travel sites can see you have been looking @ that trip or fare. Good Luck. Kat
  15. If you find out, be sure to tell me. My ticket out here came out to like $1100 or so
  16. PM led zeppelin
  17. wake up in an Ice Bath and you might get there for free

    Winner
  20. play around with with websites like kayak to get a benchmark, get an account so you can put in the option that says,"3 days before or after" and then look at a few weeks matrixes in a few months at a few big/easy cities. dublin steals plenty of traffic as a big hub to the US from paris & london, so they'll run cheaper deals and they'll be ESPECIALLY accommodating in the upcoming months since Ireland's economy is completely screwed--not sure if they got bailed out yet or not, but they're rivaling greece right now. you can look through sites like STA travel to ask about open ended student or younger traveler options, especially if you have an open time frame. they might sneak you into some stupid program they host, so you could get in for dirt cheap through something like that. and also you ought be booking roundtrip--often times one way flights cross pond are more than the roundtrip (got a flight back from london next week and just got a random return 8 months later, right before wsope--cheaper than just one way), but regardless, if you went through something like STA travel they'd probably have some options to keep something that'd be more open ended etc.

tons of deals. tons of airlines. everyones broke. europe likes US tourism. irish airline to try is aer lingus, think they own or started ryanair but they wont help you cross pond, but they'll be great around there and often are much much faster than trains and cheaper, easyjet is ridic too. but look at deals, and explore options like STA travel, i'm sure stuff like that that has a ton of connections would be some of the first to open up to appeal to discount travelers, that they'd know best where to look
