  1. I was watching news on tv and it said cheating on your spouse is illegal here in AZ. I didnt know that, not that I have to worry about as Im single but am shocked it is illegal.

Copied this from ABC local news website:
For the record, committing adultery in Arizona is punishable by up to three years in prison.

3 years in prison if convicted of adultery is ridiculous!
  2. I'm sure its a misprint or maybe a law on the books from like a 100+ years ago and isn't enforced anymore.......

Still lots of silly old laws like that on the books around the country that mostly get ignored by prosecutors. No idea when the last time someone got convicted of adultery in this country was.

  8. This isn't uncommon at all.

Many states still have adultery laws in their penal codes. They are unenforced, obv., but they remain in the codes because it makes no sense for a politician to champion the cause. It presents no political gain for any politician; no politician wants to be known as the guy who wanted to make adultery legal, which is still perceived by many as an immoral act.

    Minn. Stat. 609.36 ADULTERY.

Subdivision 1.Acts constituting. When a married woman has sexual intercourse with a man other than her husband, whether married or not, both are guilty of adultery and may be sentenced to imprisonment for not more than one year or to payment of a fine of not more than $3,000, or both.
  9. lol penal

I'm so thankful we have hired professionals that choose which laws to enforce and which to ignore. End sarcasm.

My feelings are if its a law it should be enforced. If the law is 'bad', then have it removed from the books.

theirs a new law and an old law, they don't worry about the old law that includes things like these adultery laws and the constitution.
  15. Should be enforced IMO.

If ya wanna screw around on your wife/husband then get a divorce.

But I'm ol fashioned like that ya know thinking the vows you take when married would actually mean something.

Pretty sure vows can mean something without needing jail time if you break them.

yea because most people come out a better person after having spent time in jail or prison lol
  19. No but a consequence Other than I get half your shit when you find out I'm cheating sure don't make sense.

Take the law off okay but make a new law where people that cheat aren't automatically entitled to half your worth.

Hell, why should people who don't cheat automatically be entitled to half your wealth? I'm fine with removing whatever law is in place that mandates such outcomes.

it's your choice who you marry, if that person tends to be one without morals, then it's at least partially the other spouses fault for not knowing them better before being married.

The government does not need to get involved in private affairs.

So it's only illegal if the wife commits it but not the husband? lolawesome

  25. Actually it kinda does otherwise who issues marriage certificates?

I guess the govt could get out of it altogether where marriage means nothing. But if that doesn't happen then there will always be an interest in property assesment. Thus a law like many states have now that no matter the reason for divorce, and no matter how much one or the other brings in to the marriage assets are divided 50/50. Unless there is a prenup.

If you catch your wife cheating can you go to the DA's office and file a criminal complaint? Wouldn't the DA be compelled to prosecute?
  27. Not as bad as Iraq. There's a high profile case atm where a woman who's been raped is in prison for being raped... The judge has told her she can be released from prison IF she marries the rapist...

    That's crazy...

BUT at least they stick to their laws...

Their slope is slippery for an entirely different reason.
