  1. i'm sure a bunch of you saw this because it was on after the games, but I'll summarize it. chick get convicted of murdering her husband (its 48 hours mystery and the evidence wasn't complete, but I thought she did it and I usually side with the defendant in these cases it doesn't really matter, though, as she was convicted). she opts for the jury that convicted her to decide her sentence (i didn't know this was an option), her kids get on the stand and say they think she's innocent and they can't go on without her. the jury gives her 10 years probation. your thoughts?

edit: figured i should put my thoughts about this first. they are somewhat mixed. I don't believe this chick will break the law again or kill anyone again. she's an evil bitch, but like most murderers, i believe that the specific circumstances under which she would kill someone will not present themselves to her again, so she's not a risk to the community. the only reasons to put her in jail would be to punish her and to give the family of the victim what they want, assuming that's what they want. I don't care about her kid's pleas to save her. I don't think parenting is important past the age of 10 and I certainly don't think that the guidance of a murdering bitch is beneficial. I think she should get whatever the normal amount of jail time is (40 years?)
  2. yah she clearly killed him...no 2 ways around it.
  3. seemed to me like she had the whole turning off/on the tears art down to a science
  4. Did you happen to catch the name of her lawyer?

Well...shit. The e-crush in mutual, and we should probably e-make-out some time. That said, the question was pretty f'ing rhetorical. It wasn't meant to be super-bomb-dropping-funny, just "hey, if she got off with probation, she probably has a good lawyer....har har". Now that you've actually researched the answer, it's pretty awkward in here. Sorry about that.

    HUH?
  10. chuck norris would have sent the mother & father to jail for selling drugs, and probably would do a few stuttering roundhouse kicks to the face in the process.

chuck norris wouldn't have let this happen.
  11. I just watched this and it was nuts..

But if i am on that JURY, no way i say guilty!

There just wasnt enough evidence to convict, no way
  12. but I tried to look it up because I have an e-man-crush on emcee21

    me too he's so dreamy

    sigh
  13. The judge is an idiot for allowing the jury to reach that decision. Now there are gonna be tons of people raising this kind of defense figuring they can be off the hook if their kids plead not to convict their mother/father.
  14. ahhh i get it now. i'm e-embarrassed. more evidence that I drink too much.

pretend that I wrote: her lawyer was Jacoby and Fucking Awesome.

<3 the concept of putting people away for decades or giving them the death penalty with "beyond a reasonable doubt" evidence

    Gotta love the system

  16. I agree with this. If I were on the jury I don't think I would vote guilty. The interviews, in conjunction with the evidence, is what, for me, made her seem guilty.

all that is irelevant, though, to what I was trying to ask. Assuming she's guilty and assuming she won't kill again, should she get probation to raise her kids? that's basically what I was trying to get at. I only posted this because of the thread about the woman who escaped jail and lived a normal life for 30 years in suburbia and then got caught. basically what I am asking is does punishment trump all circumstances?

10 is an arbitrary number that I just threw out. It's a personal opinion based only off of anecdotal evidence. I think parenting is extremely important from when you are born to when you are like 7 or 8. after that I think a parent's only obligation is to keep your kid alive and not pregnant. I had pretty detached parents and looking back on it I think it was for the best.

  22. I'm certain that the TV program presented an absolutly unbiased view. Of course she did it.
  23. didn't you see the part where her kids say she isn't guilty?
  24. If she is innocent she cant risk an appeal
  25. guilty... 1 count murder, 1 count conspiracy, many counts fake crying.

It may have been the best for YOU, maybe. But it's still a stupid thing to tell yourself.

according to the show, there was nothing the judge could do under the law

the jury was totally in charge of the sentence

    ah yes she can

this is her sentence if she wins on appeal and there is a new trial she cannot receive a sentence higher than this one if she is convicted again

the only way she ends up in jail now is if she violates probation
