LOL @ "may not", but whatever, you're getting there.

Okay, so, is there any extant and widely-known force that is designed to address and correct people "not living life to it's fullest?"

Is there any extant and widely-known force that is designed to address and correct people committing child abuse?

I'm not up-to-date on child abuse laws across countries, across generations, across time-frames.

In the situation where there is no widely-known force, does your example no longer become a threat?

Of course. I'm not a strict deontologist. I have been assuming a modern Western viewpoint, cause, hey, that's who we are here! Threats are always contextual.

For example, "When I get home, you are going to get such a beating" means different things if you are addressing a butler, a 5 year old, or your BDSM wife. It is not always a threat.

Its not a threat unless you threaten to report their child abuse to the authorities. Simply commenting on their actions is not a threat. If I say to you that I think you smoke marijuana, is there a threat implied?

"I think you smoke marijuana. You know, that's a felony in this state. Could be looking at hard time."

"I hear you are gay. You know, God doesn't allow homosexuality. God sends sinners to Hell for eternity!"

"I hear your daughter is in Sunday School. I hate how parents think that early indoctrination is okay. It's 100% child abuse."

The above statements are implied threats to higher (lol) authorities with the hope of changing behavior. If, in the final case, you add "and I plan on reporting you to CPS," then the threat is now explicit.

No they aren't, especially your child abuse case since no one in Western Society would turn someone in for that so your "contextual" principle doesn't hold. The first two are just warnings about the potential consequences of your actions. And I really don't know what you mean by the phrase "implied threats to higher authorities".

I wasn't saying anything against atheist and I can understand their position and respect it as their decision. I was talking about the FEW (underline the word FEW) that go out of their way to down play ECU's beliefs or any other person that has came out in this thread that defending faith. I can see where I used the term "force" too loosely, but they have certainly rebuttled with some cold hearted replies, and formed a mob effect upon the minority in this thread. That is the only reason I posted my original reply.

The flags and the bumper stickers are the same.. keep driving west and you'll notice more.

lol. Hey don't shoot the messenger, I was just repeating what Christians tell me and what Ecugirl siad in her post, i.e. it doesn't matter what you do in life, it just matters that you believe in Christ. So little fungshu who was born in the wild west of China, never heard of Christ, can not ever get into heaven, even though he spent his whole life helping other people. Fair system obv.
  15. A liberal Muslim homosexual ACLU Lawyer professor and abortion doctor was teaching a class on Karl Marx.
“Before the class begins, you must get on your knees and worship Marx and accept that he was the most highly-evolved being the world has ever known, even greater than Jesus Christ!”
At this moment, a brave, patriotic, pro-life Navy SEAL champion who had served 1500 tours of duty and understood the necessity of war and fully supported all military decision made by the United States stood up and held up a rock.
”How old is this rock, pinhead?”
The arrogant professor smirked quite Jewishly and smugly replied “4.6 billion years, you stupid Christian”
”Wrong. It’s been 5,000 years since God created it. If it was 4.6 billion years old and evolution, as you say, is real… then it should be an animal now”
The professor was visibly shaken, and dropped his chalk and copy of Origin of the Species. He stormed out of the room crying those liberal crocodile tears.
The students applauded and all registered Republican that day and accepted Jesus as their lord and savior. An eagle named “Small Government” flew into the room and perched atop the American Flag and shed a tear on the chalk. The pledge of allegiance was read several times, and God himself showed up and enacted a flat tax rate across the country.
The professor lost his tenure and was fired the next day. He died of the gay plague AIDS and was tossed into the lake of fire for all eternity.

  19. I have been following the beat down of ECU itt for awhile now. I must say, I admire ECU for not quitting even in the face of a pack of drooling, snarling, rabid dogs smelling blood. Even though I am not religious at all, my response to most of you when it comes to this religious intolerance would be, "You are correct I cannot prove anything, that's why it's called faith". I believe we all have faith in something to some extent, whether it be ourselves, our fellow man, our government, or a god, gods or the teaching of a book or, god forbid, science.

I have little problem with someone having faith in something that may not be true or provable, at least to the extent that such a belief or faith is used for good, decent and moral purposes and not to impose those beliefs on me and other through government penalties and restrictions or social stigmas and harm or some other type of coercion. Some of the best people I know are devout Christians, friends and family, included. I would never dream of ridiculing them for their beliefs as they use their beliefs for decent purposes and their beliefs serve them and their communities quite well for the most part. I have the same view toward any religion. I suspect that many of you have friends and relatives who are Christian and who believe in some form of the Bible, yet you would never attack them like you do ECU. I also understand this is an internet forum where almost anything goes, so this is not as much a criticism as it is an observation. I have no use for groups like Focus on the Family and other fundamentalist Christian groups and individuals whose goal is to impose their beliefs and morals on me and others. I have no problem criticizing them, Christian, Muslim or whatever.

It also appears to me that some of the strongest critics of ECU itt and those who have zero tolerance for her Christian beliefs, which really harm nobody and which she seems to use for mostly good, decent and moral purposes, have a relatively high tolerance for believers of Islam which makes no sense to me. Criticize Islam and get bombed by the tolerant and "but what about the good Muslims" crowd. Criticize Christianity or ECU and the rest of the OT wolfpack starts circling for a good Christian martyr kill. She's been a gladiator itt. imo

I view modern day Islam as far more dangerous than modern day Christianity. I don't care for either, but I would rather live in a Christian culture than a Muslim culture, if those were my only two choices. The reason is simple. There is typically more freedom and tolerance in most Christian dominated cultures than in Muslim dominated cultures. How about you, which would you rather live in, in today's world?
  20. i would rather live in a culture where the majority is nonreligious, a status the US is inching closer and closer towards, but obv christian societies >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> their muslim counterparts

cosign the ecu thing, she is a genuinely nice person and her and i get along fabulously irl despite our religious differences. she has quite the thick skin to hang in there and not let these threads get to her too much
  21. Agree with most of what willywoo said.

One point tho on the appearance of inconsistency of views with regards to Muslim v Christian. I defend moderate Muslims bc they are being lumped in with some awful people and I think that viewpoint is problematic and I point out what I see as a degree if ignorance in how people speak of Muslims.

As far as Muslims actual beliefs with regards to their religion I find just as silly as that of Christians, maybe even more so.

I obv would rather live in a Christian over Muslim country. I happen to think that the reason Christian countries are more desirable than Muslim has very little to do with the teachings of the religions and more to do with other factors (socioeconomic kinda stuff).

To be fair to us heathen godless internet geeks - if there were a practicing Muslim on these boards preaching the virtues of Islam, he'd get the same fucking treatment from me. There is a difference between calling out ECU for what she says and fearing the end of the wold if a Burlington Coat Factory turns into a Muslim community center in NYC.
