  1. My girlfriend just asked me if it really happend, I guess it was mentioned on TV. Then I asked my coworkers about it & they had no idea what it was. Is it really something that not widely known about?

  7. Old footage of the actual event.

  8. Ive never heard of this and have no idea what you are talking about. Actually i cant even really make an educated guess either to what it is .
  9. heard about this on the historu channel like 10 years ago from this dude
  10. If you said the words Christmas truce to me, I would not immediately think about world war I, and I'd be willing to bet neither would the average educated person.

depends on your definition of educated
  12. Of the events of WWI I wold expect the average "educated" person to be familiar with, the Christmas Truce would probably not be in the top 5, but it has been referenced in several movies and tv shows. It is also a fairly memorable story and while not as consequential as the assassination of Ferdinand or Wilson's 14 points, it speaks to a powerful aspect of the human condition.

The fact is the vast majority of Americans have never head of this, but among those who have, they probably wouldn't forget, unlike say who the allied powers were in the Napoleonic wars.
  13. I remember that song SoCal, I'd forgotten all about it until you posted it tho.

whole episode is interesting. part of the 3rd segment talks about the christmas truce in some detail. didnt realize that the two sides actually spent christmas together.

  15. i didnt know when i first read christmas truce but i have definitely heard of this. the game of football is pretty famous here (well i def knew about it and im pretty sure most people woulf of at least been told about it at school)
  16. I had heard of but know not much about these truces and cease-fires. Very cool, and not surprising as we all put our pants on one leg at a time. I can see why the brass frowned upon it though. Singing and drinking with a guy one day might make you hesitate to shoot him in the face the next (until someone shoots at you, then it's game on)
  17. Not everyone had 20th Century American Wars at Michigan obv.
  18. learned about this in 7th grade. Cool stuff.
