(fairly long article but a very interesting read)

Behind a nondescript door at CIA headquarters, the agency has assembled a new counterterrorism unit whose job is to find al-Qaeda targets in Yemen. A corresponding commotion has been underway in the Arabian Peninsula, where construction workers have been laying out a secret new runway for CIA drones.

When the missiles start falling, it will mark another expansion of the paramilitary mission of the CIA.

In the decade since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the agency has undergone a fundamental transformation.

  2. They mostly sucked at intel gathering, so perhaps a brilliant move? Drone MOAR, dudes!

    Pwnage from above.
  3. no judge, jury, just an executioner!
  4. I'm not entirely happy with this 'new' approach. It should be expanded and include those groups and individuals that contribute support to terrorists. The message needs to be loud and clear, you support our enemies then you are an enemy and will suffer the same fate.
  5. I think this approach is doing a great job and its keeping our troops out of harm's way. But, i think it has the potential to do great harm as well. I think as this program is expanded the possibility for big mistakes is very real. We may not care too much over here is a tent is targeted and 15 innocent women and kids are kid cuz those are just numbers in a paper, but those are still human lives being snuffed out and that is a tragedy. I just think we need to be real careful.

Collateral damage is a sad fact of war. The US makes a greater effort to limit loss of innocent life than almost any other country in the world, but yeah the negative psychological impact on the rest of the populace is terrible for us.
