Ok....seems like there is nothing as appealing to the polititians as cig taxes seem to be. They are about to make it too expensive to smoke....the obvious conclusion is that less people will smoke. Where are they going to make up the money lost on cig taxes when people do quit? When are they going to tax the damn french fries....or ice cream.....should be a 100% on deep fried twinkies....all of these are killing as many people as tabaco. Tax the fatties and leave my damn nicotene alone please.
thx
end of rant

Freedom isn't free.

Skoal absorbed the cost of the tax themselves and lowered the price beyond that. Chew is lower now than it has been in years. Yea for Skoal!
-
marlboro has done the same in the past....but now $6 a pack. French fries are the answer to all the tax problems. All those fat antismokers would just hate it.

cigs are usually $10 a pack in nyc. I don't feel bad for your $6 packs.

No company is voluntarily "absorbing" a tax. Like any business, they are still charging the maximum amount they can based on demand. A factor in that decision might be not raising prices too fast because they believe they will lose customers. But, whatever the reason is, if they could charge more -- they would. They aren't doing it to be nice.

That's good news, of course, because it leads one to believe that the demand for nicotine products is going down.
Oh, and OP, we know what your username is. You dont have to keep writing it at the bottom of your post. -
I'm sooo ashamed to say that they got me with the last tax increase. I couldn't justify the cost anymore so i've sorta/kinda/almost quit. I really wanted to keep smoking just to prove they couldn't tax me out of it.
Down to 2-3 cigs a day from a pack. -
just be thankful you dont live in cook county illinois, chi town cigs are like $9 a pack downtown

I paid a hooker $3,000.00 USD to let me tie her up to the radiator of my motel room and burn her with cigarettes.
Used to be able to get this service for $2,500.00 USD.
This tobacco tax increase needs to stop. -
On a related note, I read a article last year that said the biggest non casino related buisness in Nevada was a tobacco store on an indian reservation. No Taxes on there cigs I guess.

Same for me. But I just cant get rid of it altogether. I have gone some days without any, but most days after dinner I just have to have one. I've known I needed to quit for years, but the tax and also the fact that NC is getting closer and closer to banning smoking in rest/bars, etc has been the final straw.

I agree with taxing it, its not like it wont allow you to smoke just make it more inconvenient for you as its already inconveniences those around you....
Pretty soon you wont be able to smoke any where indoors so might as well quit now and some $$ and years on your life
