This bill basically allows the gov to police the internet to aid in the fight against the spread of pirated material. If you have been paying attention at all to how our gov operates in the USA. Then you will 100% understand that they won't just try to "help the media industry". The internet is really the last completely free speech platform we have and as time goes on I get the sense that govs all over the world hate that.
My goal would be to combat this act in a much larger way then just calling my representative. Which in reality is about as worthless as a picketing protest... -
-
Really? Your that stupid?
-
This is more substantial then just a conspiracy theory.
-
doubt the govt has time to worry about the interwebz while theres still a moon base to construct
-
gg pron?
-
Seriously its pretty sad that none of you are understanding the severity of this...
-
it's sad you think people will read some conspiracy theory some dude they dont know posts on the internet
-
I didn't know stealing was free speech...
-
are you fucking kidding me? conspiracy bs doesnt come with a disclaimer... it reads like the gov is doing one thing while saying another to cover it up.

maybe it's something i should be concerned about, and maybe not, but im not going to read about it because some dude calling himself revolvingiris wants me to. and phrasing it like the gov is out to take over the interwebs doesnt help. -
The gov and the big money are taking over the net tho. Pretty much fact isnt it?
-
and if the engineer directs me somewhere to stop states or countries from blocking sites like stars and tilt, ill listen. but if it's jimmy fucknut whining about not being able to get his tunes then i got better shit to do.
-
i like these replies. people thinking the government doesnt run the internet. you think if the government offers like 5 millions dollars for whatever local isp to shutup isnt going to work?
the idea is kinda out of this world, but you should trust that if offered, its true.
what are your shitty tax dollars towards a year of shut the hell up internet paid off to these dudes, especially when its a down economy and the government says your fucked either way, accept our deal or not.
you think china and whatnot just allows whatever. think about it. china has 3 times as many people and they arent even close to understanding that freedom.
the internet is not the last freedom of speech domain. it can and will be censored when it needs to be. be ahead of the curve.
there are always options out there. be aware of them. its really sick to think of the impact of anything at anytime.
dont fall into the trap, fight for you right. -
Honestly open your eyes man...Not one thing I posted had anything to do with conspiracy. I pointed to a web article that posts facts and gave you the name of a bill that could seriously pass. I then posted my concerns and thoughts on it. Last I checked I can/should do that on forums...Maybe instead of coming after me (for reasons I dont know) you should do a little thinking for yourself and read the entire bill. I also loved how you tried to minimize the reasons for me posting to "some dude who wants to get his music". I will always be able to get whatever it is I need off of the internet. Those tech savvy enough to understand how it works wont really be effected as much as they know workarounds. The last thing I am worried about is where I am going to "get my music".

For people who dont understand how serious this can get. Think about the Patriot Act, if you dont know what it is look it up. No one thinks its odd that there are children on the "no fly list" labeled as a terrorist threat to America?
As far as bluefront...what other free speech is platform is left besides the internet? News stations? No..Newspaper? No...Radio? No...Magazines? No...The internet is 100% the last real piece of uncensored communication. Its also the most widely used form of communication that connects the entire globe and it should not ever, EVER be censored. Besides child porn, that shit needs to get taken down.
The thing I am worried about is also the same thing that will most likely happen. The gov will pass this bill and use the media as a horse to ride in on. Whats an example of this? Oh, I don't know...Say poker getting tacked on to the gambling bill? They will allow policing of the net as a way for their foot to get into the door and will loosely use terms so they can widen their area of grasp. Then once its accepted enough they will continue to widen until the entire thing is governed by their employees.
Desensitization is the only way to keep people from creating chaos. People don't riot here in America, ever wonder why? They used to...What changed? Maybe we are becoming less intelligent (like studies show) and just arent finding the bills important to follow. I mean, they dont make us laugh or entertain us in any way so why should we pay attention to them... -
Why not read this article too. It's from one of those conspiratorial websites, CNET.

The sentiment is not universal: Since its introduction in September, COICA has alarmed engineers and civil liberties groups, who say that it could balkanize the Internet, jeopardize free speech rights, and endanger even some legitimate Web sites. Its wording says that any domain name "dedicated to infringing activities" could find itself in the U.S. Department of Justice's prosecutorial crosshairs.
Peter Eckersley, a technologist at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, wrote earlier this week that the bill will create a 1950-style Hollywood blacklist with the government deciding which Web sites are legitimate or not. The federal government will be forced "into the swamp of trying to decide which websites should be blacklisted and which ones shouldn't," Eckersley said. "And they're going to discover that the line between copyright infringement and free political speech can be awfully murky."
At the same time, a group of law professors wrote an open letter (PDF) to the Senate saying the law is unconstitutional under the First Amendment and "would set a dangerous precedent with potentially serious consequences for free expression and global Internet freedom."

But you will post on the topic anyways? Seems to make sense...Please quote ANY of my posts where I say I steal media or am worried about where to get it from. Ty you delusional nutbag for completely making that up though! Its pretty apparent you wouldn't have heard about any of this since you live in your own world creating context that doesn't exist...

I'm well aware its YOU"RE. However I dont give a shit because this is a forum. People, stop focusing on me and focus your attentions to where its needed. I will continuously respond in this thread because this is a pretty fucking important matter. Willywoo laid out a wealth of information that should be looked at. If none of this interests you, fine, move on. But for some of us making a difference and protecting things like the internet are a big deal.
I'm having a hard time taking this seriously but I'll respond to it anyways...Did all of the governing laws that exist now exist before the internet? Things have obviously changed and many of the free speech avenues that used to be at our disposal have been shut down or are now heavily monitored. -
Please tell me how pirating music/software/pron is protected under the Constitution?

Its not about protecting the right to steal content. Think about it...Our gov is a business like any other. Why would they care about the profit margins of media companies, software developers, or artists? The only thing I do know is that the answer is NOT "because its the right thing to do". -

OK...I will rephrase the question...Why does the United States of America government want to step in and protect the rights of media conglomerates, software developers, and artists?
Yeah and it sucks! We should be trying to come up with a way to stop it.
