I think Powell would have won an election if he had ran when Clinton finished his 2nd term.
I'd also vote for him if he were running today, so I'm tired of hearing that white people won't vote for Osama because he's black. That has nothing to do with why I don't want to vote for him.
I'm not saying I speak for all white people here. I do however, speak for myself. I'd vote for Powell, and will NEVER vote for Obama. There are very distinct reasons why. Get a clue to all of you who are saying white people will never vote for a black president.

Well, clearly they are completely different candidates. Yes, they both have black skin but that's about all they have in common.
I too think that Powell is a MUCH stronger candidate for president than Obama. However, it'd be tough for him to run after his involvement in the Iraq debacle. I have heard alot of people suggesting that he would be a great VP for McCain. I really have a tough time thinking Powell would want that role but we shall see.
Also, it's pretty screwed up to refer to Obama as 'Osama". Maybe it was just a typo on your part but to equate the guy to the most infamous terrorist in history is retarded. -
The people who call Obama Osama and the people who call Bush Hitler are retards. They try to be witty but really they just need to grow up.
As for Powell, yes Iraq hurt him tremendously but he does claim to trying to persuade Bush to not invade Iraq. I can't imagine him getting the backing of a majority of conservatives across the country. He is pro-choice and has said gun control is reasonable. -
Colin Powell is too smart to ever want to get back in the political circus.
I agree he would make an outstanding candidate and would be a huge asset to anybody as a VP.
The more I hear Obama the less I like him. I just can't believe these are the 3 candidates we have to choose from. -
Totally agree that Powell is too smart to get back in the game. I also think he has too much respect/experience to be anybody's VP.
"The more I hear Obama the less I like him. I just can't believe these are the 3 candidates we have to choose from. "
The thing is what are you really hearing from him. He (along with the other two candidates) are giving their same generic, pandering speeches every day. We learn absolutely nothing new policy-wise and yet people all over the country have their opinion's shaped by stupid soundbytes which mean nothing in the grand scheme of things.
You have to be concerned with how the mass media simply creates issues when there aren't any. The latest two cases are Hillary's fantasy tale about her landing in Bosnia and Obama's characterization of the "bitter" Pennsylvanians. Are these really important issues that anyone should be basing and/or losing their support for a candidate on? -

Thats my point, im not hearing anything, i keep waiting to hear some concrete plans, just something definitive but all i here is generic typical political bullshit. Sure he can hold an audience, hes a powerful speaker but he's a master of saying a lot while saying absolutely anything. Its just frustrating.
I want a candidate to come right and say this is what i want to change.
This is how i plan on changing.
These are the barriers that we will face while changing it.
This is what needs to be done each step of the way to meet our goal.
I also agree that the media plays a far too important role in this process. The media is biased, those who don't see that are pretty much blind. The media first goal is to look out for itself, not us, not the candidates. They need ratings, they need advertising.
I am very middle of the road. As of right now I am completely undecided on which way I will vote. -
I have heard rumors that Colin Powell could possibly be VP with Mccain. Not sure if it would happen, but I would vote for that ticket over all the other mediocre choices available imo.
-
That's what we all want but it's never gonna happen. Candidates have too much to lose by being honest. If you even attempt to be honest the media will wait for you to make one mistake, take your comment completely out of context, and bury you with it.

So anyone who says they want politicians to stop pandering and be honest need to realize that by buying into bs media-concoted non stories you are making it impossible for honesty to exist. -
1. he doesn't want it.
2. he lied to the entire world about iraq. even though he was nothing more than the bush administration's puppet, that will haunt him for the rest of his political career. -
Agreed, the guy's brain is huge, his IQ is beyond the stars. Def would have voted for him. Also I agree dolphin I hate when peple say O bush is a retard...... Ya he is president.........yaaaaaaaa hes stoooopid. Also graduated good school and had good grades.

Who is saying this? Obama won Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Washington State, Kansas, Minnesota, etc. etc. by huge margins.
White people have are, and will continue to vote for Obama. -
ross perot would have been a better white candidate than mccain.
obama posts have become the new whats your favorite beer. -
"Who is saying this? Obama won Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Washington State, Kansas, Minnesota, etc. etc. by huge margins."

All those states you listed will all go Rep. in the general election. -
Best Black candidate? Sammy Davis Jr. Black and Jewish lets dig him up.
-
??? Are you serious.
Minnesota will most definitely NOT go republican. Also, Obama polls ahead of McCain in Wisconsin, Iowa and Washington state, although it is early. -
as a white person, i would never vote for a black
-
Stevem,
not sure if you are simply trying to sure the pot, but there are a lot of whites (even those who are die hard Democrats) that will not vote for Obama purely on the basis that he is black. So you are not saying anything that is new to my ears.
Off Topic is a great place to let the little closet racist come out and say what they really think. As for people saying whether they would or wouldn't vote for Obama because of his race, I am sure there are both. I commend him on the fact that he has garnered a large number of white votes. As for can he turn that into a November win is to be seen. Though McCain is in the led in some early polls, its just that EARLY.
As for the Bush references, Its easy to take digs at him, but cmon. The man went to Yale and Harvard and few jet fighters! Yeah, he is a complete moron. I was a political science major in college and I learned a lot about people and politics. One of which is that politics is comparable to a RELIGION. People will completely void themselves of both fact and reality to support their political choices. -
Bush got in to Yale because of his father. You think he could've got in if his Dad was Joe Shmoe? LOL.
By the way, I don't think he's stupid. He's just not smart or eloquent. He would just be some failure business-man in Texas if it wasn't for his Dad. -
" I commend him on the fact he has garnered a large number of white votes."
Statements like this are the very reason there will always be controversy over the race issue in politics, and everywhere else for that matter. "white votes." as opposed to just stating votes...mmmmmmmmmkayyyyyyyy?
How about commending him on garnering a large number of votes, period? Who gives a shit if they are white or black votes? -
Well dumbass, I was speaking in the context of the original post. The original post spoke of whites voting or not voting for Obama. And I was making the observation that he was receiving votes from all across the spectrum. But,the lack of brain matter on your part couldn't understand the point. You know, if you are going to attempt to make a point, especially in regards to something you have no understanding of, you should at least attempt to figure out whats going on.
