  1. I don't usually get to worked up about this stuff, but this one is big and close to home. I have many friends who have been evacuated. In fact, the entire city of Manitou Springs (population 5,000) just west of Colorado Springs has been evacuated including my legal assistant. Also several small towns along hwy 24 going into the mountains have been evacuated. Some other friends were out of town, but fortunately they left their kids at home and they took the important stuff out with them. Highways are closed. Pikes Peak, Garden of the Gods are closed. The fire is zero percent contained. Luckily no homes destroyed so far but it it going to be hot dry and windy for the foreseeable future. Shit's getting crazy.

We are good for right now. I live about 8 miles from the fire.

  7. Are you for or against any government intervention?
  8. Never been against fire departments or police departments or even roads. But as usual there will be inefficiencies fighting this fire because of government bullshit. There are a bunch of federal resources sitting idle at Peterson air force base because they haven't got the okay to get going yet. The locals are cooperating pretty well though it seems. The evacuations have apparently been smooth as well. People are cooperating too which helps.

  15. 8 miles is all about smoke damage, I hope it blows the other way. That's exhausting on the patience and sleep when inside the house.
Get us some moar pics ffs. Of the assistant.

On the fire too! Lol glgl
  19. fires right now are insane...the total lack of rain coupled with a dry winter and hot, dry wind is a recipe for disaster.

was up in leadville today and there is a small fire there...but the amount of smoke from the fort collins fire and waldo canyon is unbelievable. we actually saw the waldo fire getting started last sunday from mt bierstadt...crazy stuff

prayers for your friends willywoo, hope somehow everything works out ok.

Used to watch July 4 fireworks over the lake there. (/vails are the best in th e mtns that I've seen tho.)

    Buildings lost total: 0

    Updates as they happen!
  23. Here's a few pictures I got as I was driving down on Saturday afternoon. Fortunately there are no structures lost yet, but no rain and 100+ degree weather won't do any favors.

This picture doesn't do it justice, the sun was bright red coming through the clouds, it was really really creepy.

  27. Was at my cousins wedding in Alaska on saturday and my other cousin who lives in Colorado springs got a call from his landlord about 30 mins before the ceremony to tell him the fire was about 2 miles from their place. He was a bit preoccupied all evening

  28. Thanks for the well wishes. Not much changed today. It got a little bigger but 5% contained now and they have some slurry bombers working now.

Here is how close it got to some nice homes.
