THANK YOU ALL, I GOT IT TO WORK AND ITS AWESOME
I used the search feature and have kinda got the basic idea about how to do this, but I still have a few questions
Right now I am using an IBM R51 laptop, but will be receiving this in August:
4. New IBM ThinkPad
The ThinkPad for distribution in the fall of 2006 is the ThinkPad T60.This
model features a 15” SXGA+ TFT screen, 1 GB RAM, a 1.83 GHz Intel
T2400 Core Duo processor, a 100 GB hard drive, integrated
Ethernet, modem and 802.11g wireless card, and a CD-RW/DVD+RWdrive
(re-writeable CD-ROM and DVD). The ThinkPad will come equipped with
a variety of productivity, utility, and academic software applications, including
Microsoft Windows XP, Microsoft Office 2003, Maple, SPSS, Macromedia
Dreamweaver, Thunderbird/Firefox, and Symantec AntiVirus.
Main thing is that I don't know what I need to hook up a monitor withmy comp now, and if it is the same as the T60 I will be getting.
I found a few 20" LCD monitors for around $400 that I liked (1600 x 1200).
I don't want the external monitor to be a mirror of my laptop screen,so do I need a video card so that I can have the two separate monitors? And if i do need one, will it work with my R51 now and can I uninstallit and use it with the T60 later?
Main reason is that I would like to 3 (later 4 table) on the externalmonitor and use my laptop for browsing and AIM conversations, etc.
I know I'm asking a lot of questions, so any input would be greatly appreciated
thanks guys -
anyone???
-
Yea it would be so much easier if I just had a desktop
Only thing is my school gives us laptops, and I'm getting the brand new IBM in August. -
Well it looks like both laptops only have a VGA out port, so you should be able to use the same cable for both computers. You shouldn't need to add anything else for dual monitor support I don't think.
-
are you going to UNC?
-
nah, im at Wake Forest
-
ummmm in english please??
sorry, im just really not good with this kinda stuff
And by 2+, do u mean 2 additional monitors, or just my laptop screen and 1 other monitor? -
Dude. It's incredibly easy. Can you right click? Can you left click? Here we go:
Plug your external 20" into you laptop. The connection is called a VGA port but that doesn't matter. Just put the square peg in the square hole.
So far, so good? OK. Power up the monitor. (Never hurts to state the obvious.)
Now for the hard part. Right Click anywhere on the Desktop.
Select Properties.
Select Settings.
Futz with the settings therein til it works. (Don't forget to look in Advanced tab.)
If you want to run a 3rd monitor you'll need to hook it up thru USB. -
Now THAT is what I was looking for
Simplistic and in my language lol
Thank you -
Plug it in, right click on desktop, then properties ( this is saying you have it all plugged in correctly with the correct hardware ( parts ) ) go to the settings tab and click the #2 monitor. then click the little box that says extend my windows desktop to this monitor. then it should work
hows that ? -
Omg, this is freaken awesome lol
I just tried it with a shitty old CRT monitor from an old computer and this is awesome
One problem though
When I have my laptop as Screen 1, I can't drag anything over to the external monitor
I have to make the CRT monitor Screen 1 and then I can drag stuff to my laptop screen
Obviously not a big deal, but weird. Any ideas??
And thanks for simplifying this all guys, just figured it out and really like it
