  1. So my laptop got a virus and immediately shut off the wireless, ran the scans, and of course found things. I deleted them took care of it.

But now my internet explorer is corrupt/not working properly. What do I need to do to get a correctly working IE?

Any advice or suggestions are welcome and thank you in advance!
    1. Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
    2. If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl
If you use Windows Vista, click Start Collapse this imageExpand this image

. Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER: inetcpl.cpl
The Internet Options dialog box appears.
    3. Click the Advanced tab.
    4. Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
    5. When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
    6. Start Internet Explorer again.

  7. Firefox. Not close.
  8. Firefox just took the training wheels off of your I.E. FWIW,you still have the pinwheels and tassels on the handle bars ,cards stuck in the spokes and a pink Barbie themed paint job. but,run what ya brung.

Edit:in an effort to make this post more informative as to my personal preference rather than a cheap shot at a product which i do not care for,i will say this. as for myself, the dog and the toad that lives on the ramp under the air conditioner,we enjoy the exclusive use of Google Chrome and keep a back up of I.E. installed for instances when a separate browser is needed. 9. you might have missed the poll i ran 3 weeks ago asking OT what browser they use. FF lead with about 60% of the votes with IE and Chrome tied for 2nd with about 20% each.

as usual,Blonde is on top of my erroneous ways. i took a few minutes and researched this a little further. i think i have found the conclusive evidence that Firefox, while getting the job done and being a Quaint item to have lying around the desktop, stands no real chance when compared to Chrome. I present my evidence-

    Firefox

    Chrome

  11. Chrome is miles better than the rest, it just hasn't been marketed very well.... I used IE exclusively for years before using FF exclusively for years, and now I'm doing the same with Chrome. I think if all the folks who said FF is better tried Chrome for a full week they'd soon change their minds
  12. IE "Welcome to 1996!"

    Firefox "Welcome to 2004!"

    Chrome "Welcome to 2010!"

You're an idiot. Chrome has had a lot of issues lately. It's still buggy as fuck, for example when I was signing up on some sites yesterday, you have to "Agree" to their terms and conditions. Except with Chrome I could never see the checkbox or radio button to Agree to them. Had to go to Firefox each time and register. That's fucking ridiculous. I prefer Firefox, but Opera has became a latter part of my likings lately too. I don't hate Chrome, it's got a ways to go in the browser game to catch up to Firefox though.

    To the OP:

    1) Download Firefox

    2) Right click > Delete IE shortcut from your desktop

    3) Stop looking at shitty porn sites

    4) Get better virus protection if you are going to use the same sites.
  15. this should fix it. open open IE, goto tools, options, connections tab, click the LAN settings button. then make sure 2 uncheck the proxy server checkbox. then Ie should work again.
  16. In the last week, I had browser issues as well. Assumed it was a hijacker/malware of some sort as I was getting redirected after clicking on google search links; losing internet connection on restart; etc. Turns out it was a nasty virus (Alureon.H or some such shit).

Anyway, I went to www.security-forums.com and one of their "experts" walked me through the appropriate fixes.

I'd highly recommend using them to anyone with PC, browser, virus issues. Just make sure to be as detailed as possible and post your problem in the right forum.
