  1. WTF does my credit score have to do with what kind of driver I am?!?!?!?!?!?!

I got offered a sweet delivery job at 25/hr but their insurance company will only insure people with a credit score of 400 or better...fml...

edit: my score is below 400 because I had my identity stolen towards the end of last year...
  2. If you are below 400, you have bigger problems than driving!!!
  3. How on earth is your credit below 400?

I mean the shadiest of the shady are normally in the 400s somewhere.
  4. Your credit score reflects how honest and responsible you are.
  5. Please let 400 be a typo.
  6. and you thought you had won the battle when you quit paying those credit cards..

and don't forget that $900 cingular bill in collections,,
  7. Don't you get a 400 for just signing your name?

Brag: Got mine and the wife's back yesterday because were refinancing. 786 and 794 respectively!
  8. wow...

There is direct actuarial correlation between a credit score and the likelihood of filing a claim for an auto loss. That is why it can affect how much you pay in most states.

I've never heard of a company being able to decline you strictly for your credit score, however, I have not worked in commercial lines before.

    What does FML mean?

    Nice!!
I pull between 300-500 bureaus a month at the dealership and the lowest I have seen was a 308. Takes a lot of work to get it that low!!
But I have probably seen only 15-20 below 400 in 20 years of doing this.
  11. How the F do you get as low as 308? Seriously?!?! Wow, that has to be well beyond just not paying your bills, right?

At one point, the guy had to be a bullet. But he had like 4 cars open at the same time (prolly signed for all his buddies). They all repoed at the same time plus about 100k in CC charge offs.
Funny part is, I used to pay my salesman a $100 spiff for the lowest bureau. Started at a 458 and slowly went down from there. That one never got beat!!
I still can't figure out why that guy would even think about going to a dealership. Like " I promise I will do better this time!!!" . Not so much!!
  13. Damn, now that is effort above and beyond!

Wild though, I had someone ready for hire to do a 12 month consulting assignment for a client, they wanted a credit report done as part of the background investigation (standard today). He scored a 560 and they said "no hire".
  14. I have no clue what mine is, and I dont really care to know.

All I do know is that it is getting worse with each passing day.

Have you ever seen an 850? I am wondering how to get there or what it takes.

See a lot of 800s. Only a few 850s though. Tough to get. The highest I have seen is around 860. But this guy had next to ZERO debt but quite a few open accounts that he had for 20 years.

Score are nothing more than BK indicators and the number 1 cause of BK is consumer (credit card) debt. Get rid of the debt, without closing the accounts, and your score will go up.

I would be amazed if anyone actually had an 850. I was a mortgage broker for 6 months after college, so small sample size, but 813 (I think) was the highest I saw/heard of, in an office of 200 mortgage brokers. Nothing beats the people who tell you their credit is "good", and then you pull it and it's 515.

Edit: and lol @ below 400, I didn't know that was possible, I am in awe
  19. Ive seen a few 850's most of the time they usually own some sort of buis,

My bureaus are a little different than mortgage scores. We pull what is called an "autospecific" which weighs heavier on installment credit plus, it disregards inquiries. But I agree, not too many 850s in te world. Truth be told, if you are over a 680, you are in pretty good shape by today's standards.
  21. Jaybone, I'm sure you're just bs'ing, and it's probably actually getting better with each day as accounts get older - but you're at an age where you're about to make some really big purchases in the next 7 years or so, and you need to make sure your credit is where it should be. Don't just not "care to know".

Find out what it is, and while you're living with your rents - do what you can to get it going in the right direction. Moving in with hot bitches questions may get you some advice, but the older folks on this board will agree that the advice I just gave you is much more beneficial. Figure out what you can do to make it better now and it will save you A LOT of money in the future.

  24. I hate the whole credit score thing.. Its an arbitrary number. My score sucks. I have alot of debt. But I have a 18 year history of never missing a payment. Ive never had a collection never had a bankruptcy.. Anything. Yet if I apply for another credit card or loan I will get a form letter saying im denied because of serious delinquincy.. Yet I pull my report all the time and ive never had a late payment.. I always ask them which account has a serious delinquincy and they never have a response. Banks and credit card companies are scum and crooked and I hope they all go under.. They dont even read the reports.. They just see a number and poof.. I fucking hate them all. Yep im a risk all right.. Ive only paid off 3 cars. Never late.. Never missed a payment on anything in my life..

If you have a lot of debt, you should be more concerned paying that down instead of trying to open new lines of credit...

Spot on here, no doubt. Also, employers are using this as part of the pre-employment screening or background checks before making official offers.
  27. Im trying to consolidate it into one payment..

  29. I think my credit just took a big hit over something stupid...i had this CC which i accidentally used eviently instead of another card that looked similar to the one in question. Well i had a 24$ charge on it since november that I hadn't paid(only get online statements and didnt bother to check since i didnt think i used the card. So, 2 months goes by w/o me making a payment on it and i get a letter from company(GM), it's GMcard saying my limit has been dropped, etc, b/c i missed the payment which i didnt know i had. Sigh, all taht over some 24$ charge...how big of a hit will my score take b/c of this? What are best ways to improve credit? quickest?
  30. PM me job details - I'll take it off your hands. Thnx
