    Just read through the Alice in chains thread which brought back some memories. I have always said that My Own Prison is one of the best albums of all time, mainly due to it's consistency. Bands like Foo Fighters have some great songs that are better than the best of Creed, but the quality doesn't hold true throughout the entire album.

    I dunno I've always been given HEAPS of shit about liking Creed (the religious thing usually comes up and /or when I put it on someone will say something like 'oh my fucking god' or 'fuck Creed' and get up and take the CD out) but if you ignore what he is singing about this holds as probably my favourite rock album of all time.

    I listen and have always listened to stuff like Guns & Roses, Pink Floyd that is considered to be 'cool.' My opinion is that music appreciation for the most part is determined on an individual level by influences other than the music itself. Most ppl when they hear music the enjoyment they get out of it comes in a large part from how it makes them feel about themselves, which is determined by society's (or maybe moreso your demographic's) perception of the band and of those who listen to the band, rather than the raw music quality.

    I basically hate all the albums they released other than My Own Prison, they are crap, and can be justifiably shat on. But MOP if you just sit down and listen to it without any bias is a quality rock album.

    I've listened to a shit load of rock all my life, and I would likely like much of the same stuff as you do. I could never know if you genuinely don't like their sound or not, but i think in many cases this album is just rubbished so that you don't get shit over it, and because liking it doesn't make you feel cool.

    it's funny how people exhibit all the traits that rock supposedly rebels against: dogma, intolerance, groupthink, closed-mindednes, judgementalism etc.

    Anyhoo - yeah, I like Creed okay. Not my fave band of all time, but they've certainly produced some very solid, dynamic music. Seems like some of the animosity comes from what's-his-name (Scott Staph? - whatever) seeming to be sort of a sefl-absorbed narcissist - but hey, you don't have too look very hard in the halls of rock to find self-absorbed narcissists, eh?

    So remember kids - it's very cool to have your fave band and hang with others who you identify with - that's part of what rock does, unify people of similar tastes; very uncool to put down others for their tastes.

    Do your own thing; don't make a religion out of it.

    They weren't anything special but I liked Creed, they had some decent songs and I do get what you are saying about Stapp's lyrics...some good stuff.
