  1. OMG HOLY SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT $136 million??? never thought the cubbies had it in them to get serious
  2. fuck that
  3. No shit. The sad thing is, they have enough money to go out and get at least one more big name player. I really wish the Tribune would sell the team and this could become the norm

  4. Thats frickn awesome....now if they can just get a prime starter.
  5. it's going to be funny when they still end the season with a losing record.
  6. no it won't :(
  7. Just setting me up for another season of hearbreak. I'm still pumped about this. If the team actually stays healthy and signs a #2 or #3 starter it could be a good season.
  8. We need another OF and a solid #2. That would be enough for us to win the weak division were in.

Oh yea, we need to stay healthy too :)

  9. if they keep pierre, soriano n him would be a nice 1-2 punch 80 + sb's
  10. yea, signing pierre would be huge. Pierre doesn't like playing in Chicago because the Inf grass is too high that he doesn't get enough balls through the Inf. Maybe Soriano will convince him to stay.

We still need at least a solid number two

  13. lol if you thought they had any semblance of a chance to resign soriano.
  14. I dont keep up with baseball at all...used to live 5 minutes from RFK and nats tickets are $5 so went to a few games and Soriano was entertaining

Article in Ny times about possible sale of whole Tribune empire.

From here I think the Cubs will acquire 2 SPs. If they go FA, I think they will get either Ted Lilly or Randy Wolf (A.Petite being a dark horse, but I don't think Chicago would be his typical town and I suspect he will stay closer to the state of Texas or return to the Yankees) and the 2nd pitcher will likely be one of the trio V.Padilla, G.Meche, or A.Eaton. Jason Schmidt would be a sick pickup and I think the Cubs could be a sleeper in the market for him. They also may venture into trade market, using Matt Murton as trade bate w/ prospects. Woody Williams has also been talked about locally for a possible one year deal w/ 1 year option. I also suspect they will go after a swing man like Miguel Batista or Tomo Ohka as insurance for Prior. They will also sign a LH hitting LF or CF, Luis Gonzalez being short term option and JD Drew being high risk/reward option if they can manage to get two SPs for around 15 mil per total.

I'm not thrilled with DeRosa signing, I'm already having Jeff Blauser nightmares, DeRosa is great utility man, but overpaid starting 2nd baseman.

Personally, my picks would be sign Lilly and Padilla (if schmidt isnt an option) for rotation, Batista as swing man, Luis Gonzalez in LF (if cheap enough while keeping Murton to give him 2-3 days off a week) or Jump in head first and sign J.D. Drew and trade Murton.

So excited for baseball...............and for hopefully no more tribune empire destroying my life.
