  1. Finally decided to tell Comcast to fuck off, and am now going without cable. My replacements so far are an Apple tv, and subscriptions to Netflix, Hulu Plus, and MLBtv for the rest of the out of market games.

Has anyone had any experience with the online only direct tv sunday ticket? I don't wanna shell 300 bucks if I can't mirror it to my tv, or if it sucks. Also, anyone know of any good LIVE streaming football pregame shows? Ipad compatibility would be great as well so I can mirror it to the tv, would prefer to not sit at the computer (or lug my tower around to connect to my big tv).

Would love to hear from others and their solutions to sports without cable tv!

    Cliffs: fuck you comcast
  2. My brother just got sunday ticket and he uses his PS3 to play through the TV and its pretty awesome. Im pretty sure there are pregame shows on sunday ticket too. We just canceled cable too and bought a roku box

  4. my dad had sunday ticket a few years ago w/ the online streaming feature. he never used the online feature so my brother and i occasionally logged in as him and used it (we all 3 live in diff places, KC, orlando and vegas). it worked awesome, however i had a lot of issues at the time with the website. half the time, when i'd log in, the feature wouldn't appear on the site and i couldn't use it. i can't explain it better than that but it was annoying as fuck and basically didn't work about 2/3 of the time. granted this was like 2 years ago, and i'm pretty sure they prob fixed it and/or it was probably just an issue with me logging in in las vegas while his account was in kansas city and likely active at the house at that exact moment (although they prob have their receivers on 24/7/365 too).

Didn't have cable for the first 3 weeks or so at the place I'm living now. Me and my roommate built an HD antenna, had to buy a couple small things, but the materials cost less than 10 bucks. We just used a video on youtube for instructions, ended up getting 20 channels or so with great picture (at least as clear, if not clearer than cable).
  7. I've wanted to do this so badly for the last 2 years as my bill for cable/Internet went from $80 to $100 to $120 to $150, but i just can't pull the trigger.

Every time I'm ready to jump, a new season of NHL, NFL, Breaking Bad, Game of Thrones, or Boardwalk Empire starts and I'm hooked for a couple more months.

Good luck. Stay strong. Fight the power.
  8. if you know how to use the internet properly there is no need for cable

I don't believe this is even possible. You have to have some sort of subscription to DirecTV to get the Sunday Ticket online.
  10. +1 would love to tell comcast to fuck off
  11. You can get the Sunday Ticket without their cable, it's on their website.

My cable bill eventually got to be $180 a month, not including Ufc ppvs. This was their performance internet and a digital package that got me everything pretty much. It just got to be too much. I could pay it, but I felt it was ridiculous, and wanted less of a reason to sit on my ass. I still love a lot of the popular/premium type shows, so this is my gameplan....

Got the Apple TV. This will let me watch Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones and Dexter(as far as premium shows, lots of content available for free). They will cost $4 a pop through Itunes the day(week?) after, but they aren't all on at the same time. Some of these shows I'll watch with friends/family.

Netflix Streaming for 7-8 bucks or whatever it is for movies, random docs and old tv shows. Streams over Appletv

Hulu Plus for $10 a month for all the tv content they offer. Streams over Appletv

Now I am looking at puchasing a Mohu Leaf Plus HD Antenna ----------------> http://store.gomohu.com/the-leaf-plu...v-antenna.html

I havn't found a bad review (sure I could if I tried hard), and if I can get the major networks, I get FOOTBALL. The DIY stuff looks cool, but I don't mind spending a one time $70 to get the networks forever, and not have a 2X4 impaled by coat hangers chilling in my living room.

FOOTBALL: It's more fun to go out to bars/buddies for games anyways, unless I'm hungover, which is where the above comes into play.

BASEBALL: I'm kinda fucked here. I'll get the MLB.tv season pass on Appletv (I just got it for $25 for rest of year), but I'll be blacked out of Mariner games(insert joke about why I'd want to watch them here). I can listen just fine, buy I'm used to watching pretty much every game if I'm not at work. This is the only thing I feel like I'll be missing in my tv watching, but I'll figure something out or get over it.

UFC: I usually got every other card, if it was decent, so I'll just go to the bar instead. I won't drink up ALL my savings.

    NBA/Soccer: Don't care

Internet: Gotta stick with Comcast where I am, no other choice. $62 for Performance internet. They are still bending me over here so there's that..

Basically I'm looking at saving around 80-100 bucks a month, and gaining a lot more time to do more productive things. IT was always habit to get home from work and channel surf. While I'm not totally sticking it to comcast, they don't have me by the balls anymore with their escalating and random fees.

    DO IT!

  12. got rid of cable 3 months ago and using roku box.have netflix and hulu plus and fine with that.hockey fan and can stream that if there is a season.can get football on justin.tv but quality is poor. comcast sucks
  13. Got rid of cable after the saints lost in NFC champ game. I just don't watch enough TV to justify the $60+/month. Only time where I get in a pinch is football season but like others have said you can either use HD antenna(gibes you a better picture than cable because the signal is uncompressed) or watching at a bar/friends house). I did have a Netflix acct but cancelled it after a few months and now just have Hulu+ for the shows I want to watch. If u don't have friends with TVs and don't like bars just stream firstrowsports.

    Cable is biggest scam ever
  14. Pulled the trigger on the Mohu Leaf Plus HD antenna. It's a week or two out, I'll update when I have it hooked up.

I picked up Sunday ticket MAX edition a few days ago. I haggled it down to $75 while on the phone with them (and she offered it for free if I renewed a one-year contract). Was great having all the games, but I had the same issue with the internet. At first, I clicked "Start Watching" and everything ran smoothly. I watched until 3, grabbed some food and shut down my laptop, and when I came back for the 4 PM games, the "Start watching" button didn't work. No matter whether I restarted my computer, tried a new computer, etc., it would just refresh the page without games popping up.

When I called customer service, they didn't know how to do shit about it. They pretty much just said better luck next week, our servers can't handle too many people.

I wouldn't rely on the laptop version after that. Hoping the PS3 version works better, as I'll be moving around a lot and can't take a giant dish with me when I travel.

can you get espn on that?
  18. Unfortunately not. Only local channels that send their signal over the air, so basically the major networks and random stuff from what I understand

  19. Cancelled mediacom this morning due to their outrages prices. $202 is fucking ridiculous especially since the internet is down at least once a day and the TV goes out everytime the wind blows. My only problem is, they are my only choice for internet. So Im having my daughter start an account with mediacom to get the internet since she gets a better deal being a "new" customer. I had them cut it off the last day of the billing cycle (which is the 14th) which is when my directTv installation is supposed to happen. Keeping my fingers crossed.

FTR that $202 doesnt include premium channels, or rented movies or PPV shit....thats just the basic family package with internet and phone.

  23. oh my lord.
theres an online sunday ticket and I can play it on the PS3 i just bought??!
    this sounds uhmazing.

it looks like it's $300 in that you have to buy the max deal..is this what it cost him or anyone else?
  24. 300 bucks for the PS3 Sunday ticket, yep. I've heard mixed reviews about it though

  25. I use a HD antenna and it's really all the TV I need. I don't watch enough to justify spending 120+ a month. I get CBS fox and NBC which has me set all Sunday long now. Monday's and Thursday's I'll just go to a friends or a bar. Paying for cable in non sense.
  26. so I can go get an antenna to watch regular tv, and that's all I need, like it used to be? and I don't need one of those stupid digital converter boxes they gave away a few years ago?

yes...you'll only get like CBS, ABC, NBC, FOX, etc. for your local stations...and I always picked up like PBS and some bullshit religion channel.

but yes you can do this with just an HD antenna.

i wish this thread would have been about 2 months ago...i had no use for my HD antenna anyway and gave it back to the store i work for to use locally. DirecTV finally got a deal worked out with our local channels so I can watch them via DTV.

No converter needed if you have a HD TV And yes, be like the old days except super clear.
  29. thank you, gentlemen. I've been avoiding getting cable because all I watch is CNN/netflix and I can do that on the pc. at least now I'll have a little variety.
  30. Just ordered one of those leaf HD antennas. Will report back. I had a mind boggling conversation with the time warner rep when I called to cancel. I tried to cancel just the cable and keep my internet and he said he would have to charge me 40 bucks if I canceled just the cable(WTF) He also told me that the online price is for new customers only. So I told him good then cancel everything so I can be a new customer elsewhere. He quickly gave me the online price and :waived" the 40 dollar cancelation fee...
