  5. West of DFW Airport. Dallas is ewww and you will probably get car jacked.

  6. So we got IT?????????

  7. Depends on how close you want to live to where your working.

Also you better be ready for the heat
  8. Really dependent on where you're going to live (edit: derp work). Plano and Frisco are somewhat default.

The scenery tho. It's making a comeback.

  11. Uptown is far and away #1
Other good spots are Knox-Henderson, Mockingbird Station area, Addison and Shops at Legacy in Plano (most of Plano is awful for unmarried people, though) Austin Ranch in The Colony is also a good spot. The Village is also okay if you're under 30.

Unless you have (or plan to soon have) a family, stay away from most of Plano, Frisco, Allen and all suburbs not named Addison. Downtown Fort Worth is also a great spot.

Just move to Uptown. If you don't, you will soon wish you did.
  12. Hopefully this goes better than your last Texas thread :)

  15. Thanks so far guys. Lol dolphin I knew the comment was coming. Not looking for meetups here but welcome them. Just a nice place to live for at least a few months while in the academy. Once I get placed Ill probably move closer to there. So crazy that I only got 2 weeks notice to get my butt out there and be ready to go.

Great place...for a dude with a wife and kids. Awful if nightlife or restaurants open after 10pm are of any interest.
  18. CONGRATS Andrew. I am very happy for you. Good luck
  19. if its just for a few months, find something close to work. most areas are nice if not directly in the city.

  24. really excited about this. the process started around the first of the year. they are hiring in three waves and i'm in the first wave. some guys won't begin their academy until march, so i feel really fortunate.

crazy part is that i start two weeks from wednesday. wow...i need to quit my current job, pack up the apartment, visit with my peeps in socal and vegas, drive out to texas, and find a place to stay before starting the 12th. (anyone got an open room?)

  25. hey neighbors!

holy shit...worst move ever and i still don't have a place to stay long term. i went from SoCal to Vegas in one truck and trailer then switched to a different set of truck and trailer for the rest of the trip. the reason for the switch was i've got a ford explorer sport trac and no one seems to rent trailers to those models due to rollover issues. so i had that goin for me in the back of my mind the whole trip, which is great. the 2nd trailer was bigger but was an open-top. we had it all tarped and tucked, but along the 1300 mile trek from NV to TX, it got all tore up and flappy. i hit it with some duck tape patches but those never stayed on more than a few hundred miles. it has been raining basically the whole move, and almost everything got wet and some things got soaked.

i just rented a 10x20 storage unit out here and backed the trailer right in. was planning to just unhitch it and then hit the sack but soon realized i needed to spend a few hours unloading everything and positioning it all to hopefully dry without it being ruined. fun fun fun.

i get started tomorrow. let the craziness begin!
