Agreed and yes i feel silly now. It def needs to be brought to everyone's attention the info in that vid. I'm pretty surprised that info doesnt show up easier if you do a search on the financial state of the USPS. If you dont feel like watching the 7min video it basically points out how the USPS actually made over $200mil in profit the 1st quarter but due to congress-mandated funding of pensions for the next 75 years at the rate of $5.5bil/year it's operating at a big loss. What a mindfuck. And now some congressman support laying off workers in a profitable business to cover up their mistake. Holy shitsnacks.

Can someone explain the last part of that vid? It kind of lost me. Seems they're taking $ from the USPS to fund OTHER federal pensions? If that's true it's about the most ridiculous thing i've heard of the gov't doing in..........well at least 5 minutes. They can't be fucking serious can they?

Every one will eventually be promoted to their ultimate level of incompetence. If the grunt was able to get by for 20 years pumping gas competently, he probably earned a few raises along the way. He chose that profession and from his perspective, he probably feels like he makes a decent living. Doubt someone pumps gas for 20 years if they haven't identified themselves with that position.
  3. i am more shocked at how they are throwing the mail around the room and then missing the cart? what is no one pick it up off the ground or runs a cart on top of it?

    I <3 libraries
  4. yeah but in dead-end jobs.. they're just that. lots of people are in dead-end jobs, and are for life. so they can bust their ass for 20 years, and not get promoted once. so the idea that if you work for 20 years, you deserve to be paid well isn't the case. esp. with the growing population. and plus azns.
  5. I guess the "deserve to be paid well" part should have been taken in context with people who actually deserve to be paid well. Those people who are in dead end jobs are largely there because of life decisions they have made. Some people are content with grinding it out at 7-Eleven for $12 per hour. Others are content with living on Welfare/Food Stamps. Some people aspire for more and seek to better themselves for promotion anyway they can.

In a sky full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?
  6. Um, operating at a significant economic loss sums up the military too. You obviously chose that profession and have little right to complain about it's lack of pay and benefits. When you get out you can only hope to get a Union job somewhere as this is one of just a few avenues left for the average American to ever obtain middle class status. O

Oh, and by the way, the benefits you will enjoy as a honorably discharged military guy aren't too bad either. Beats what the average citizen gets from his government.

I would bet that union members make up a smaller percentage of the middle class than they have in a long time.

Depends how you define middle class, but with the shrinking union membership, so goes the middle class.

Nonsense. My parents and step parents have all had mostly "middle class" jobs without being in unions. It is quite easy to be working for a company like IBM or Microsoft or Sprint and have a middle class income without being unionized.

  11. fuck unions. especially construction ones
  12. Dyzalot, your people must have had desk jobs. I agree that Union membership and accordingly middle class opportunities are at lower levels today than probably in 100 years.

By the way, IBM, Microsoft and Sprint are not hiring. Mc Donalds on the other hand just hired 50,000 burger flippers. Then again, they'll need them when that's all we can afford to eat.

Just wow. First off, read the whole thread. Second, just fucking lol at the military being anything close to the USPS. We're over here dodging bullets and bombs. They're sorting mail dipshit.

  14. Lol @ comparing military to mailpersons. ffs
  15. If they would eliminate 30% of middle management & supervisors that would be a step in the right direction. I'm not a fan of Unions and I think it's bullshit there is a no layoff clause in our contract. If you watched the video as liberal as it was they are correct about the over funding of pensions and I think a portion of that money should go back to the USPS after some additional cuts are made. BTW the post office cannot just up the rate of a stamp $1. The price is based on the rate of inflation and has to be approved by congress. I am all for a 5 day work week fuck working on Saturdays!
