I was training for a marathon and was in best shape of my life. Had run the 17 or 18 mile training run somewhere around 8:20 average. Less than two months from the race my knees started really hurting and one started swelling up bad. Had a hard time walking let alone running so I went to the doctor and my knees were all messes up. No cartiledge so there was bone on bone and it won't tracking right. Told me i could never run that distance again. Told me to take 6 months iff and then i should focus on 5ks on soft surfaces. Now I'm old and fat.
But back to ESS. Go get em. I think you should run with your K-9 and tell other runners hes a performance enhancing drug sniffing dog and you're on official police duty during the race. -
Damn that sounds awful. I am so glad I have never had any knee trouble in honestly sounds like the worst type of injury to deal with.
-
back injury has to be just as bad if not worse. pain comes and goes but when its bad you can hardly walk... like me, today and most of this week. but it beats laying in hospital bed with meningitis!
-
I have been lucky when it comes to running injuries. So far
-
ess, how much do you stretch before/after? It seems there are diff schools of thought on whether or not a lot of stretching helps prevent injury
-
Any chance this gets cancelled? Best of luck with travels OP!

I use a foam roller before hand. I roll my calves, IT bands, and hammier. I do a little active stretching just before. Afterwards I stretch for awhile and roll my calves again. The foam roller is the shit.

I am up and getting ready for the race. As of now it's not raining but that's not gonna hold off. It is windy though. They are calling for 20 mph winds. That will suck -

3:48?????
Congrats....great feeling!!!! -
Outstanding. Way to go.
-
Impressive brag thread imo
Ps wp, dolphin re gym teacher. Jerk. Ive walked the bay to breakers as a kid, how much harder could running a marathon be? -
lol. After starting to get in shape earlier this year, my knees went bad again and I gained back the weight I lost. So we could probably have a 5-mile race. first one not to die wins.
-
well done Ess - very impressive
-
Awesome, bro! Good for you.
-
Thanks guys. means a lot. I was on a pretty good pace and should have hit my goal of 3:45 but around 22-23ish we got hit with a 20mph headwind that wore me out. Shaaarp and Sponge, do you think you saw me? It was packed and I am sure it was hard to find runners.
-
Still 3:48 is a personal best for me
-
Awesome job man. I get tired running to my mailbox.
-
It was crazy packed with runners and spectators...I guessed at when you would be by MM9. But it was really hard to see individuals. I missed 3 friends and they were less than 10 feet from me at the time. It was an awesome time just to witness(even better to run in it). The military people are so freaking great for the whole thing....makes the experience that much more rewarding.
