Drops at midnight.
Getting 7-9's on early reviews. Not too bad given the crowded market. Multi-player is still pretty enigmatic.
Who else is going to give this melee(not shooter) based fps a shot? -
Surprised you want it. Wouldnt you get bored of always dying first?

Just decided to try gamefly and this was the first game they sent me. Shipped saturday so we'll see when it comes in. Heard gamefly is kinda slow but one of their major shipping centers is like 10 minutes from where I am so hopefully will be quick.

Damn do I <3 you. No homo. Except for the heart. Objectively, yeah, that's a little homo.
Gamefly has always been a 2 day turn around for me so, GL. -
Thanks. I guess...
-
they're my favorite kind! lol
-
will pick up today

Excited to hear how people like it.

Coolest trailer ever but doubt I put down Madden for a long time. I'll wait for the price drop.

I only got to put in about 2 hrs into the game last night due to having our ffb draft, but here are my initial impressions:

I spent the first hour or so completing initial missions and getting used to the gameplay. While it seems easy at first, you really underestimate how quickly the early weapons you use will deteriorate/break. It really does take a while to find your groove to easily kill the zombies. Especially when you get bombarded by several runners at once.
Once I got the feel for it, I wandered off the beaten path and just started exploring. The island seems pretty massive, and wide open for free exploration, but if you wander into the water or into a place you don’t belong, it says LEAVING THE GAME AREA. Kind of lame, but as far as I can tell the map is huge and these boundaries shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
So far I only met a handful of zombies that were hard to kill. Most of them are a pushover and simple to beat, as long as you remain aware of your surroundings. There aren’t too many wide open areas like the beach, most of them are by pools and bungalows where there are paths cut out and you can very easily get trapped in a corner or with your back to a wall.
I haven’t messed with the difficulty settings, but thus far its seems a little too easy. I am reminded of Manhunt, of how easy most people were to kill, but how extremely fun and gratifying of a game it was anyway. I must’ve wandered around randomly for an hour or more and had lots of fun just scavenging off dead bodies and killing rando zombies.
There are lots of small cars littered around certain areas. I was only able to drive one out of 20 or so I came across, but it was awesome, running over zombies to kill them was lots of fun. I also found bullets in one of the cars and got excited, but never found a gun to put them in. So far the weapons I have had are oars, wooden boards, wrenches, etc. Random melee weapons. I found a few workbenches and messed around with some weapon upgrades, but haven’t put too much time into that yet.
Skill trees seem pretty standard, offense/defense options, plus specialty options. Each character has a predilection towards certain weapons, I picked the chick who is the best with sharp weapons, and likewise I spent skillpoints on skills related to the sharp weapons...
So far I would give it a B+
PROS:
Island seems huge, lots of exploring to do
Roaming around and killing zombies ignoring your missions is fun and there is no pressure to complete the storyline
Gratuitous blood and violence
CONS:
Weapons are few in number and fall apart easily, no bad ass weapons early in the game
Fighting system too easy in the early stages
Gay boundaries preventing exploration of some mapped areas
Graphics are cartoonish at times
The environment isn’t as interactive as I’d like
Game seems too focused on weapon maintenance and upgrading, not enough lootable items unrelated to weapon upgrades -
I got driver san francisco.......pretty sure the plot is less likely to happen in real life then Dead Island(yes its that dumb) but it has a 1971 dodge challenger in it.

I read that theres some better gun gameplay later in the game. In the same review, game informer says you can get 'armed to the teeth' but a sentence later they say theres not a lot of ammo
-
Is that any good war? I've only played a ps2 version shortly but remember liking it

Edited By: Glo4m Sep 7th, 2011 at 06:24 PMi would hope so, I mean the diff characters have diff specialties, blunt weapons, sharp weapons, rage mode (unarmed i guess), and guns. So there has to be enough gunplay to balance out character development.Originally Posted by rucka

i would be happy with better melee weapons, and more customizations. I'm not far enough to see how it will progress, but there might be a lot more weapons farther along.
But as long as there are enough fun ways to kill i will be happy, like i said the highlight for me so far was finding a working car running over 8-10 zombies before crashing ti and killing myself. the more non-traditional ways to kill there are, the longer it will keep my attention. -
just saw this online. some are really funny.. there glitches
