  1. Besides him probably being one of the most overrated players, he is the face of the Yankees obv, and was clutch back in the day on the postseason.

That being said, what is his HOF status?

Does he deserve to get in?

    Is he first ballot?

Does he get in at all?

I would say he should probably get in, but not first ballot.
  2. yeah he's in the HOF. he doesn't deserve first ballot but he'll probably get it. and yeah...he's still the most overrated player I've ever seen.
  3. Derek Jeter Leads Yankees to Victory with Dramatic Walk-Off Intangible

Derek Jeter led the Yankees to an exciting, come-from-behind victory over the Orioles last night with a dramatic, walk-off, bases loaded intangible. It was the shortstops 1,148th career game-winning intangible, extending his major league record.

Jeter came to the plate against Baltimore closer Chris Ray in the bottom of the ninth inning with the bases loaded, two outs and the Yankees trailing 6-3. But seconds later his unmatched intangibles cleared the bases and had New York celebrating an exciting win before a roaring home crowd.

It was amazing to see, said recent Yankees acquisition Bobby Abreu. Ive long heard about Jeters intangibles and how his true worth cant be measured by his somewhat pedestrian numbers, but this is the first time I witnessed it with my own eyes. Its still unclear to me exactly what happened. I remember him going up to the plate. There was maybe a pitch or two and then a great flash of light shot out of him and filled the sky. Then the next thing I knew everyone was celebrating at home plate. It was totally surreal. But great, because we really needed the win.

Baltimores Ray said all he can do is tip is cap to Jeter and try to get him next time.

When a guy with the unmatched intangibles that he has comes up, youre kind of at their mercy, said Ray. I did my best, but his intangibles won out.

Yankees manager Joe Torre said last nights walk-off intangible is just the latest example of why he wouldnt trade Jeter for any other player in baseball.

Dereks detractors will point out the fact that he doesnt have much power. Or that he strikes out too much. Or that he has limited range at shortstop and a mediocre throwing arm, said Torre. But its the intangibles that set him apart from every other player in baseball. The intangibles. What those are exactly I cant say. Its kind of tough to put your finger on. But its something. And that something somehow won the game for us tonight.

Jeters teammate, Alex Rodriguez, says he wishes he could one day come through with a walk-off intangible at Yankee Stadium.

I was the MVP of the entire American League last year and even though my numbers are way down this year, theyll still dwarf anything Derek has ever put up, said Rodriguez. Yet its not enough for people, and I know that. They want championships here in New York and in order to get championships you need players with intangibles whatever they might be and however it is that you go about displaying them. If we could have a lineup full of Derek Jeters, we wouldnt have a single guy with more than 20 home runs or 80 RBI, but wed be working on eight-straight championships. Thats a given.
  4. HOF for sure.. He's been in a bit of a decline recently but when it comes to the post season he is one of the most clutch hitters. A bunch of gold gloves and most hits in yankee stadium. In terms of SS he is def one of the best all time at the position.
  5. in for sure, not first ballot

  6. In for sure, first ballot if he doesn't go in with a loaded class.

Edit: changed my mind. Definite first ballot for sure. He's going to finish as a +.300 hitter (I personally know batting average is overrated but not by HOF voters), 3,000 hits, 3 rings, 3 Gold Gloves, 9 Time All Star, 2000 WS MVP. He's a 3 time Silver Slugger winner

    First ballot for sure
  7. His career postseason BA is lower than his regular season BA. Also, he's consistently been one of the worst defensive shortstops in the league. The Gold Gloves mean nothing
  8. the difference in BA is 7 points. his postseason OPS is the same. which is what you should expect since considering he's played almost a full season's worth of playoff games (expectation would probably be lower numbers since you are facing much stronger pitching).

he is easily going to make it on his first ballot (i would guess he gets close to 90%) and he deserves to.

  10. Couldn't have said it better myself.
  11. Jeter gets in first ballot for sure. In the era of steroids, power numbers are going to be looked at the least imo because voters can't be sure who has doped and who hasn't. That makes Jeter a shoe-in for first ballot.

also deserves cred for being as meh as he is this long.
  16. ok, upon further review, he looks like first ballot...

    how about Manny Ramirez?

  17. Manny is first ballot pretty easily I think.

Are you really asking if Manny Ramirez is a first ballot Hall of Famer? Like, a serious question?
  19. Manny's one of the top 5 RH hitters of all time. he has to be first ballot

Actually, he was voted #1 Most Overrated Player by his fellow MLB players in an anonymous poll last season.
  21. Current players that are first ballot hall of fame as of right now:

    Derek Jeter

    Manny Ramirez

    Frank Thomas

    Ken Griffey Jr.

    Chipper Jones (?)

    Pedro Martinez

    Randy Johnson

    Anymore?

Can't say Pujols, Santana, etc. cause they haven't played 10 years yet
  22. Glavine, Smoltz and rivera should be on your list

    oops duh
  24. I'm also not convinced Big Hurt gets in on the first ballot given his DH status. He's a HOF for sure but i don't think first ballot

He was so, so sick earlier in his career... albeit a terrible fielder...

He easily could be a first ballot guy but I think of all the guys we listed he's definitely the least slam dunk with maybe the exception of Glavine who i'd definitely vote for but I see maybe getting bumped to the 2nd ballot.
  28. Yeah and he was also voted guy you'd most want to have on your team, or fucking your wife, or some shit like that. Irrelevant imo.
  29. He will make it and he deserves to. He has a Mattingly-esque leadership quality that I believe is overlooked by those who believe he is overrated.
