So how the eff is diablo any different than WoW? Does it actually take skill or just a compelte dedication of ur free time like WoW mindlessly grinding?

Edited By: Hallettcopta Aug 2nd, 2011 at 04:12 AMdiablo 2 didn't have a monthly fee but there was obv alot less content than wow. It wasnt an MMO at all, you made private games that 8 people at max could join, there was also a single player mode. In order to get good items though, just like in every other game you have to grind and get lucky. The luck factor among other things made it an extremely addicting game to play. You didnt have to dedicate your life to the game like you do with WOW and raiding thoughOriginally Posted by Duffy08

I'm finding it hard to compare diablo to a similar game, I can't really think of any off the top of my head
That being said, this game looks a lot more similar to WoW than diablo 2 was -
Baldur's gate, Champions of norrath, etc.

Diablo is an action RGP that kind of defined a genre. There are tons of Diablo like games out there that you can pick up a demo for, or for cheap. I recently played Torchlight on Steam and it was all kinds of fun. Well worth the money.
Diablo and Baldur's Gate are two completely different games. One is a story driven party game with D&D base and the ability to pause the combat while the other is a single character action driven loot fest. I enjoyed them both very much but to call them the same game implies you haven't played at least one of them. -
Edited By: Niceguy Aug 2nd, 2011 at 01:45 PMAll top down action rpgs are the same to me. But that's because I typically hate action rpgs. Never saw a significant difference. Go through dungeon beat boss hope for loot then repeat.Originally Posted by Tarvin

There's skill in every game but in order to "dominate" wow you need gear first, then a strategy later. There has never been a distinguishable "pk badass" in the history of wow that didn't have top notch or very close to top notch gear. WoW always gets this bad rap that you are trying to defend right now because most of the other MMOs (pre wow clone era) had a pk system where success was directly dependent on your swag with the keyboard and mouse rather than the color of the items in your inventory. On top of that I would argue that WoW has never been a hand eye skill game but rather more of a strategy type of game. It's still a skill but a very different type of skill, more based on knowledge and tactics than actual tradiational video game skill, this is why people hate on it so much. There's no dodging or aiming in wow, it's all just knowing what spell combination works best on each class. Most other games you can reasonably compare to an FPS which take insane skill, while wow is most comparable to a game of chess. Basically what I'm trying to say is that wow is 97% a PVE game and there should never even be a discussion about it's pvp because, well to be harsh, it's a joke.

so just wait for people to flood the market with items and they'll be cheap...gotta love infinate supply, limited demand economics

If they'd make items that didn't last forever, this auction house thing would work better, but would only tailor to certain players I guess. It would balance the economy and make the piles of gold you find actually worth something. -
meh, The Old Republic looks better imo

New interview for Diablo III and the BETA has been announced.
What advice do you have for players who want to get involved in the Diablo III beta test?
Kevin Martens: We want to encourage all of our players to download the system check utility to help us test the hardware and server/client infrastructure. For a chance to get in the beta, you’ll need a Battle.net account [so create one here if you don’t already have one], then -- from Battle.net account management -- click on Beta Profile Settings, download the system utility check and send us your system info for a chance to be entered in the beta. If you’ve been selected, we’ll send an email to your Battle.net account address. If you didn’t get in, don’t give up hope as you may be selected in a later wave -
So it looks like the Friends and Family Beta has begun, and the public beta is just around the corner. I was beginning worry about the final product, but the beta videos that I've seen look pretty damn sweet.

Also, here's the official beta testers forum:

Looks tight. Cant wait to play it

The beta had only been opened to media representatives thus far unless it just opened today. You can only play up to the first 1/3 of the first act and lvl up to 13 anyway. Not like you can get more than 3 hours of game play on a character

nah, it's a public beta as of yesterday (meaning any of the general public that opted in thru battlenet could have been chosen).

Serlin - what do you expect out of a beta? a full play through? -
They will continue to give more people invites as the beta goes on, so you could still get one if you didn't in the first public wave of em that went out yesterday. I didn't get my starcraft 2 beta right away either so I'm still hopeful -
I got into Beta last night... apparently a massive wave of invites went out. If you signed up check battle.net... I will probably go ahead and download it but wait til monday to check it out because of super bowl stuff. anyone else?

Meh, no such luck for me. Would've been nice, since I'm recently jobless and have tons of free time all of a sudden.

Have been in beta for about a month now, its a great game, has the complete Diablo 2 feel which is exactly what I wanted. Only thing you probably won't like is the targeting system, its called mesh targeting and its pretty bad but its not a game killer for me. Have played all the chars to max level in patch 9 and 10-11 (was no char wipe from 10-11) gotta say monk and dh are my favorites. Also this is the first time I've seen this thread and I couldn't stop laughing at the person that said Star Wars would be better than this game, Star Wars was terrible I played for like a week and got hella bored, never touched it again.

well if at any point either of you guys wanna let let one of us less fortunate ones (cough me cough cough) play on your account for a bit, let us know!
in all seriousness, game looks great. just hope they are sticking to their Q1 release plan.
