  1. It's hard to explain but I think this video does a good job. I'm speaking from a fans perspective obv. Growing up, I was a big fan of the NFL and NBA and didn't start following MMA til about 6 years ago. Now that I've been into it for a while and have experienced some ups and downs as a fan, I think I can confidently say that the disparity between highs and lows in MMA is considerably larger than in the other major sports I grew up watching.

Watching Brett Favre throw for like 300 yards in the first half of a Monday night game the day after (or day of, can't remember) his father died was incredible. Watching him get sacked brutally into the ground by 300 pound Warren Sapp or throwing a game losing interception in the NFL championship game(s) was awful. At the time, favre was my favorite athlete in any sport.

Now think of your favorite athlete. Imagine them preparing for their big day for months, you watch their highlight vids and clips of them training getting ready for their big fight. You see promotions and commercials for weeks on end. Finally, it's fight night, the bell rings and your dude, your idol so to speak, the person you've been telling your friends about for a week straight is getting his fucking shit pushed in all over the octagon. He gets his head mercilessly dribbled on the canvas til the ref dives in dramatically saving his life and his lifeless bloody carcass just lays there as the crowd cheers. I got upset when Brett Favre got a grass stain on his knees and walked off the field sadly after throwing a pic.

  2. Love mma but disagree. I think it's the same in most sports
  3. mma is literally the gayest sport in existence
  4. like mma, but to me they might as well be dogs fighting. dont give a shit about them, just want good fights so i would be opposite of you
  5. In before killingbird's "like yah, violence is wrong, mahnn" post.
  6. Every time i've ever watched mma it has put me to sleep. Beyond boring to watch.

Jon jones is the baddest dude on the planet. I would not be surprised if he killed someone with an elbow one day. He is like a character from mortal combat personified. I would not even get into the octagon with him if I had a chainsaw. I'm serious.
  13. ~30-35 IQ points
  14. I like mma, but that's because I like watching violence happen from the safety of my couch. I want to see worlds wildest police chases, when I watch "COPS", I want the dude to run or fight them. Do I Google "street fights", yep. It's pretty much human cockfighting, but if its good and violent, I'm interested.
  15. being that much into one guy is kinda gay if u ask me.
  16. As someone who's watched every single PPV for the past 6 years, the only fights that seem to get me interested nowadays are the big name fighters. As an mma fan you can pretty much tell what matchups are going to be 3 round decision borefests. The amount of cards UFC puts out on PPV they should do a better job. I used to be HUGE into it, now its kind of wearing its welcome. Don't get me wrong, the big draws and big names are as exciting as any mainstream big sports event, but just look at the upcoming non-main events/co main events and who gives a shit.
  17. not sure why it matters. obviously theres a difference between sports like boxing/mma and team sports, or other sports where if you fail, you can get right back up and go again the next week. The point of this thread escapes me, no offence intended. unless the point is that theyre different, then duh

yeah, I still enjoy mma, but there are certainly things on tv i'd rather watch than melvin guillard and some boxcar bang it out for a few rounds.

I laugh whenever Dana White talks about how MMA is gonna be the biggest sport in the world. I think his idea of what that means must be different than mine. I feel like he thinks just because we'll be fighting ufc in every country makes it the 'biggest sport', when the nfl could make 100x more cash in one country lol

Reason: mma is growing on me tho, watched silva fight live in vegas and it was awesome
  22. In MMA, you get to watch your favorite athlete for 15 minutes once every few months.

In baseball, I get to watch my favorite team for 3 hours every night.

    I win.

    EDIT: 9,999 tho

Mediocre UFC card > 98% of regular season baseball games. I'm watching a real sick fight over game 1-3 of the World Series too.

  25. fine i admitt it i was just trying to bait him into posting
  26. I like MMA, but don't get into all their personal lives and training.

That being said, it's very unlikely that any MMA fan could be as depressed as I was when Illinois lost the 2005 national title game to UNC.

Can't compare loyalty to a fighter and loyalty to a school/franchise that lasts generation to generation. That's why team sports will always be better than individual sports. Rivalry, tradition, etc.

Guess that makes sense...after I read the OP the first time, I thought he was saying that MMA >> other sports because of the way he relates to the fighters better than he can any of the team sports.

After reading it again, I guess he's talking more about his favorite player (Favre) vs. his favorite fighters.

I can get on board with that...however, like you said, I don't think it would ever compare to a team sport.
