Ok, so I have a 2001 Jeep Cherokee Laredo and I blew an engine rod through the oil pan. The repair shop told me they found an engine with "a little under" 100k miles on it. My engine had 145k miles on it before it gave out. They're only offering a 6 month warranty and its going to cost me $2,050.
What's my play here? Suck it up and fix my jeep, my fav car and the only car I've had over the last 8 years or plunk like $1-$2k down on a solid pre-owned vehicle. I'm in grad school and work full-time so picking up another $250 per month bill isn't the best thing for my finances but oh well, I guess this is life sometimes. It just sucks bc either way it seems like a shitty scenario.
Any advice on how to deal with the guys at the car dealership? I know I should play hardball as they're willing to wheel and deal since it's the end of the month. Regardless, I know not to be taken to the hoop, gunna go over there with one of my buddies and see what they have to say. Just looking for some advice
Saw a 2005 volvo s40 with 74k for like $9k

Anyone know anything about Volvos? -
If you can't afford to pay the full price on a car, you can't afford to drive.
Take your cheap ass to the bus station, and don't forget to tip the bus driver 20%+. -
My mom has a 2002 Volvo (looks just like that, not sure her mahe tho) she loves it so much she will not trade it in. She can def afford to drive newer but she loves the Volvo.

Car salesmen have tough jobs and work long hours.
I'm sure they just love dealing with dbags like you, trying to take food out of their baby's mouth.
It's pretty simple, and analogous to your stance on tipping servers, some people like to save money by tipping no more than 15%, other like to save by negotiating a lower price on a car.
At the end of the day you're all a bunch of cheap dbags that can't afford to eat out or drive. -
Accord...that is all
-
Lol negotiating a price on a car is not the same as tipping. If they don't like the price you're offering them on a car they don't have to accept it. They can wait for another offer to come. If you stiff someone on a tip they can't get back the time they spent working/serving you.

How does the car salesman get their time back while you're just "seeing what they have to say"?
I think he should slip the guy at least $20 if he's going to take up any of his time, and he certainly shouldn't be negotiating a lower price.
The price is on the sticker, if you can't afford it take the bus. -
lol @ you if you actually pay the sticker price.

You're all a bunch of cheap dbags that can't afford to drive/car shop imo.

Id get some used car rather than fixing an older gas guzzling jeep. Autotrader is the nuts so find a car that meets your requirements from their advanced search option and see what's available near you. If you're spending 5-10k then go with a used acura tl, honda accord, audi, vw, or even a bmw or lexus. Since you're ok with higher mileage for now it shouldn't be hard to find a reliable car. I have an american car and when I'm done with it I'm not getting another. I've had countless problems in every aspect of my car and its frustrating and costly. I don't know anything about volvos but I wouldn't doubt their overall reliability.

lol jtown owning everyone in here
-
who cares about their time, they get into the used car sales game understanding theres alot of wasted time and their hourly rate isnt that high. Theres going to be alot of stingy people bargaining and if they dont like it dont do the job - its not the consumers responsiblity to make sure people can pay their mortgage payment - how bout they figure that out themselves

I love how people get offended at the 'take the bus' comment, as if taking the bus is beneath their white suburban standards.
-
I pray that you're leveling but if not you're a complete moron for going to a dealership and just shelling out the sticker price.
