  1. I think years of negative thinking/acting has led to my current anxiety disorder and I want to change my lifestyle hoping it will help cure my disorder. I was just wondering what kinds of things that people that live positive lifestyles do?
Btw I just started going back to the gym and that helps A LOT.
  2. Fuck being positive its so lame dude
  3. If you play the poker, get a part time job. It makes stuff so much better.
  4. you can be positive as long as you want. or at least until you die.
  5. Volunteer. Focusing on other people will help you think more positively about your own life.
  6. no, i don't. i expect the worst, so when it happens, its not so bad. but it also makes me prepare for the worst, so if it happens, i will be ok.
  7. Hard to be positive when you're educated, young, poor, and unemployed. FML.

Stop being pussies and do it.
  9. Try reading The Secret.

What you put out into the universe does come back to you.... I <STRIKE>believe it </STRIKE> know it to be true.
  10. The last online tourney I won (ages ago) was when I had started reading that book and I sat there through the entire tournament practicing that thought pattern. I still lost some hands but for small amounts because I made lay downs I never would have done normally.

It freaked me the hell out and I have never opened that book again. I suck at poker.

  12. Watch this and it might help you put shit in to perspective

  13. i am a big believer in positive thinking - i squelch negative thoughts - always put positive things in the universe - i ask the universe for what i want

i also do yoga because it relaxes me - stretching makes me happy

i remind myself daily of things that i am grateful for, no matter how small

  14. GYM!!!!

Working out 2 hours a day is awesome. Also helps when you have some nice tail to look at while workin out.

Reduce the amount you drink. As much fun as drinking is, being hung over sucks balls. Plus you're more likely to eat shitty foods for the next couple days. So when you do go out boozin, just drink enough to catch a good buzz and then have a few waters.

Quit smoking cigarettes (if you do).

Pumpum always puts a smile on my face.

  15. I've had panic attacks for the last 3 or 4 years, its definitely a slippery slope so it's good you're deciding to do something about it now. For me the two biggest helpers: Regular exercise and Meditation (ie: Learning to breath properly, which is diapramatically, will help you sooo unbelievably much.)

Anyway, you can spent your short time on this earth being upset, angry, miserable, etc.

    or

You can spent your short time on this earth trying to make a difference in the lives of the people you meet each and every day.
  17. Also, try reading some books on Buddhism and Mindfulness. Learning to practice mindfulness has helped me very much.
  18. What kind of anxiety disorder do you have?

I have a bit of one myself, but I'm a very positive person.

I just happen to get super worked up in certain social situations, which is even more strange because I love to be around and entertaining people.
  19. My honest is answer:

If you like sci-fi read Robert Heinlein. His views on life are amazing. Avoid jealousy.
    Do what makes you happy.
When you dont feel like doing something small, like taking out the trash, just do it, dont think about it, just do it. It helps you feel good.
Def learn how to handle panic attacks. I took medicines for borderline and anxiety for almost 5 years then finally I realized part of it was just learning how to handle it in healthy way.
Eating better will help you feel better, but dont be afraid to just pig out once in a while.
Find something to devote your extra time to, either reading something, volunteering, or learning about something new.
  20. Well said jester! Put a smile on someones face even if you do not know them. Open a door for someone, just do something that makes a difference in your attitude and thinking!

I think the key is - Wake up and not be lumping around like a lazy ass. Get up like you have a mission for that day (goals). My thoughts are im taking over the world everyday!

Edit: Pills are not the answer. It is all in your head.
  21. stay active (physically and mentally)
be proud of who you are
    it's okay to be different
success is a very personal thing, it doesn't come from a cookie cutter mould
you are your own worst critic and most people see you in a more positive light than you see yourself in
  22. eating extremely healthy can make you feel sooooooo much better, which would probably help your attitude/etc.

Some of the best advice so far. You gotta learn to love yourself before you can really start to enjoy YOUR own life.

Along the mindfullness suggestion... I think you should watch this video and read some of his literature if possible. Dr Kabit-Zinn is basically the fore most expert on Mindfulness in America and has a great grasp on Eastern Philosophy in a Western world. Give it a try, I promise it'll be worth the hour you give up.

One could argue that they go hand in hand.
  28. Someone just gave me a copy of this book, but it's in Spanish. Should be fun translating it.
  29. i live a very positive lifestyle. here are a few things i try to do:

    be of service to others

    be a good mom/wife/daughter/sister/friend

    read self help books

    attend spiritual functions

take good care of myself (don't smoke, drink, drugs, etc.) but trust me, i've had my fair share of these in the past.

    exercise/eat healthy/get good sleep

oh and i compliment people all the time....it makes me feel good to see them feel good

also, i laugh constantly...hence my famous "lol's" on the boards. i'm don't just write them...i'm really laughing out loud.

hang out with family and friends that are positive influences

be honest.....especially with yourself. To Thine Own Self Be True.

I disagree. Sacrificing your own goals to further the goals of others won't necessarily make you happy. If it did then happiness would be as simple as selling yourself into slavery.
