1. My aunt posted something on Facebook about the 1 yr anniversary of the death of her best friend. It made me realize that I don't have a best friend. I have tons of friends, bros, buddies, and plenty of close friends but noone I could call my BEST friend. I gotta tell you I think I am sad about it too.

I am talking about a person (not your spouse) that you talk to everyday, and see a few times a week. I am talking about the person you are a lock to hang out with and if you are going somewhere it's a foregone conclusion that they are going too. Your road dog.

I used to, for sure. Now I have a few people I may go hang out with but there isn't a single friend that I talk to everyday. Some of the problem is that I live 30 minutes away from most of my friends but 30 minutes really isn't that far. I don't even think about a single friend every day let alone see one.

I suspect that many of the younger OTers have one but I bet many of the older, married (especially with kids) OTers will realize they don't either.

Is the BEST friend a dying breed?
  2. Of course I do. You are, silly!
  3. guys dont have best friends
  4. If you asked me who it was I would say my friend Megan even though we hardly talk anymore, it just feels mandatory to say her after all the years in high school.

I do belive that best friends are something you lose as you get older they are replaced by spouses and kids.

My bff for the past two years has been Raiden :)

Who wants to make bff jewlery with me?
  5. I am lucky enough to have 5 people who I consider my best friends. I am 99.9% sure they feel the same about me.
  6. hmm got like 4 or 5 ppl i would consider my best friends. a few of which i see a couple times a year and a few that i see at least once a week.

if i talked to one of my friends every single day i think that would be weird and prolly annoying.

  7. Lets say your on the job... You're on a patrol, your texting your wife when you accidently run over and kill a local scumbag crackhead. Absolutely nobody saw you do it. Besides the OBV answer of "nobody", Which friend would you feel safe/safest telling? thats your "best" friend. Just because you dont see/talk to him everyday, doesnt change his title.

see I would think that seeing someone a couple times a year def disqualifies them as a best friend.

I'm pretty much the same way. Every best friend I've ever had I've always remained in contact with and talk to on a daily/weekly basis. Three of my best friends I've been friends with since age 5-6.

  10. by your definition i'm not sure if i do have a best friend. but if someone were to ask me who my best friend was, i would snap-insta say my friend John. we've been friends since we were like 4 or 5. hung out all the time growing up, same sense of humor, same birthday even lol. but now we live 2 hrs apart and he's all settled down with a wife and a kid. we talk a couple times a week, still hang out at least ever month or two, go out and drink, catch a Royals game or whatever, but i guess i have a lot more regular old friends than once best friend now

  11. Through thick and thin, even though Witten tries to drive us apart
  12. I still talk to my friend Anthony that I went to school with from 8th grade on up. After school we worked together and shared an apartment for a while, but I didn't get along with his gf too much. He wound up marrying her and slowly she drove a wedge between us. I give him a call once a month to see whats up. I probably have 2 or 3 other friends I am closer to now than I am with Anthony, but he'll always be like a brother to me.

  14. Yes I do. Known him for quite some time through a mutual friend and found out we liked all the same shit. If he were a girl, he'd be my soul mate. No homo tho.

I don't think it should disqualify them. I'm in the 3-4 people I'd call best friends boat, but one of them moved to Scotland for a couple years for grad school (I live in San Francisco), no way I hang out with him every day, but I'd still consider him one of my best friends.
  16. I think one of the main problems is caused by my job. In my line of work there comes a time when almost all of your friends are people you work with. You become close with many of them and maybe even get a best friend out of it. Then the problem becomes that you find when you are hanging out all you do is talk about work and that begins to suck.

i think that kind of outweighs the "no homo" disclaimer goof....

i have a few best friends, talk to them all once a day usually over skype, although one lives in germany so the seeing them thing is kinda out of the question.
  19. I have two best friends... DaVols and my bf from elementary school.

I then have people who I consider close friends.

  22. Maier Johnson Obv
  23. By your exact definition meaning talk every day and are always hanging out no. but I do have someone I consider my best friend above anyone else.

Me and fellow OT'er and cowboy homer Dware94 have been friend since like 6 years old and lived a few houses apart. have been roommates at one point, still lives like 10 minutes away.
  24. yes, i have 2 best friends from 7th grade that i still talk too. i also have my sisters and mom.
  25. I got to thinking about this a few weeks ago while watching "I Love You, Man". I think I'm in the same boat as you ess. I don't have anyone that I talk to on a regular basis (outside of work). For sure, my job (working shiftwork) and family take up most of my time.

    Great, I'm depressed now
  26. yes and ess you could get some really good friends in Irvine California
  27. So appropriate tho.

  29. I have a ton of awesome life long friends, but I don't think I could pick a best friend. My family moved to my neighborhood when I was 4 years old, and within 2 years 6 of my best friends moved in nearby and we went through K-12 together, and I went to college with 3 of them. I've also have a number of great friends other then that group, I feel very blessed. However, I don't have one singular best friend.
