    think past potato

what if u go to a restaraunt cause service was ok but food was mediocre
    ..as a result u leave 10%

next night u get takeout and the food was the bomb...but u leave zero tip

see the flawed logic there? u are tipping more than the server...tips are spread between whole staff

this is also why u tip lower at takeout places...cause its for the chef and bussers

if food suks dont go back

You realize there are a lot of restaurants that the server keeps all of their tips, right? They don't give them to anyone else aka busboy, cooks, bartenders.

  4. always tip when i get take out. though usually a little less than when i eat in.

This is in the minority where I live, I have worked in many restaurants and not one of them had the policy where servers shared tips.

People are paid according to what they do, cooks get paid the most, then hosts/takeout, then servers. (I will say that hosts/takeout get paid about the same as servers, but cmon their jobs are the easiest, it's usually high school kids doing it a couple nights a week.)

This is the norm. Pretty sure Pluv was just making shit up right there.

Actually in alot of resturants the severs do have tip out the busboys and the bartender at the end of the night.

Also its mostly in other countries that tips are shared between them its not the norm in the US but other places its much more commonplace.
  9. I always leave a dollar. It feels slightly cheap, but it's also such a minor service that the server should be glad you left a tip at all.

We can go in circles all day saying "a lot of restaurants do this this and this." The point is, not every establishment is the same. Some places the take out person gets paid min wage, some places it gets paid server wage. It's unfortunate that we don't know who does what, unless we ax.

My second point is, have you ever served before, Cesporz? I'm not attacking you at all. But when I get take out at places like Outback, Chili's etc, those take out people are standing around half the time. Even if you only stand around 1/4 of the night as a take out person that is still way more than a server.

If you serve in the night shift at a decently busy place, then you're going to be in 5th gear 98% of the time. I understand you probably have to make a salad or a side, which isn't really hard, but a lot of servers have to do the same thing.

I just don't understand why you would be in a position that is probably made for more of a 16-17 year old. You know they aren't going to give you a raise. And it sounds like they actually took 75 cents from you at one point lol. I would have said, "Do you want me to quit?" And obv quit when they give me a pay decrease. I know I sound like a dick saying that, but I don't mean to.

My last point is the overseas topic. I can't speak for Europe, but I know in Australia, they almost never tip. And if they do, it's very little. The servers get paid higher wages, however, the service is quite awful compared to America.

  11. I server, host, and can do kitche prep so I get abused while at work I wind up doing all these other things while only getting paid min. wage. I never jst stand around tbh where I work the servers stand arond more than I do. I understand its different at different places but give the person a dollar at least its nice and they did help provide you a service.

Also I graduate at the end of the year with my BA in Enligsh and minor in Film so it provides me flexibility. I didnt quit because they said I would get a raise in one of the other depts I work, I never did which is why I am leaving now. (I know it seems like I cant spell in my posts but my keyboard lags so half the words dont type out properly).

I dont feel like youre attacking and Iwish that people did know what places do the tips in what way, I mean where I work credit tip go on your check 2 weeks later and is taxed. I dont mind this when I serve, but some servers hate it. Every where does work differently but in most corporate resturants regular servers do tip out the busyboy and/or bartender. I know Outback and Ruby Tuesdays does it.
