  1. New bill just passed in Nevada means online poker without a hitch for those players? Does this open the flood gates for a bill in the US Congress?

  6. meh i just read todd terry's post in the 2+2 thread so i'm not too excited:

"I don't think this opinion letter is of any significance for online poker. It does not necessarily follow from what is set forth in the letter that the Wire Act doesn't cover online poker. (I happen to think it doesn't FWIW).

And the Wire Act is not the basis for any criminal charges or civil causes of action in the Black Friday cases in the SDNY. So even if this opinion letter did necessarily apply to online poker, it wouldn't change the DoJ's overall position regarding the illegality of online poker, which is based on statutes other than the Wire Act."

    someone's response to him:

"Huh? The letter clearly states that the Wire Act legally applies only to sports wagering, contrary to previous court and DOJ conclusions that it applies to all wagering over transmission lines. How does that not mean that the Wire Act doesn't cover online poker?"

    his response:

"According to the opinion letter (which I read), the entirety of the Wire Act applies to "bets or wagers on any sporting event or contest". The opinion letter doesn't in any way answer the question of whether a poker game is a "sporting event or contest" (it is, IMO) or whether a wager by a participant in a poker game is a "bet or wager" on a "sporting event or contest" (it isn't, IMO). "

What I gather is using the UIGEA to seize the two main sites and suspend our funds was unwarranted. Hopefully this opens the door for at least stars to to come back to us. Or perhaps the major casinos to start their own sites

  9. this is true as well. Didn't even know LA players couldn't play until i tried setting up a carbon poker account last month...i can play on cake poker tho
  10. Obv there has been a lot of discussion on this site by a lot of people who know more about this that I do, but to me, this has seemed like the course for quite some time now.

What I mean is, the crony capitalism that got Bush/Frist/et al to fuck with online poker in the first place seemed designed to clear the market. There would be a lot of wailing and gnashing of teeth, but eventually, the market would open up, but that time the market would then be clear of established leaders, and the big gaming firms like MGM and co., would then have an open lane to a hugely lucrative new pieces of business.

Sound strategy by those casino types, but it indicates such a fucking retarded thing about government and politics...

Over the longest term (i.e. all of human history), the most correct economic and moral logic wins. The problem is that when the system is being suboptimized, how many people suffer unnecessary harm in the shorter term, as the proper logic is working to supplant over time what we are fucking up?

Like, communism is a massive logical failure. Eventually you run out of other people's money. Yet, how many hundreds of millions of people suffered under the system that otherwise wouldnt have, whilst that system took the time to run its course?

  11. Cliffs?
  12. Online Poker coming to a state near you. If a state makes online poker legal in that state it takes away the U in UIGEA. The only road block, the Wire Act has been cleared with this ruling. Merry Christmas.

  13. So this is on a state to state bases and does that mean players in one state can only play against players of the same state?
  14. State by State poker will suck balls. Eurotards won't be signing up to play on the Florida State online poker site.

I can see it now: Number of players online = 37.

You would be surprised, Here in BC the governement runs a province of british columbia and province of quebec casino/poker website, completely regulated by the government........... between the 2 provinces less than 8 million people and yet the poker traffic is steady, the bad beat just recenelty went off and it was at just over 1 million dollars, on a good day can get over 2k to 3k people online at once.. yes this is nothing in comparison to stars but considering less than 10 players know what they are doing its quite lucrative :)
