So, if I were to donate an item to a non-profit do I choose what its value is? In this case I'm looking to donate a sink (before you laugh this is an antique farmhouse sink that can sell near 1k at times) and I'm wondering how this works. I'd like to donate if I know I'll get my money back in from taxes in the longrun so...anyone know how donating things like cars, bikes, clothes, sinks, etc. works?

get a receipt from them that says what you gave them and they'll sign off, Salvation Army did this for me when I gave them a computer and shit

i'm talking about possible saying its a $3k donation even though they can only sell at 800-1k? is this possible?

I mean this is only an issue if you get audited but you want at least something in writing from them of what you gave, Salvation Army just let me write whatever model computer I wanted and then signed off

It's only financially sensical if I donate for triple so I get it back in tax refund...
new to this donation game...so not some wealthy dude...
