"drive through" not "driver through" ffs
Edited By: saxman Jan 9th, 2012 at 04:47 PM
Maybe not as big an issue in the good old US of A but where i live, it's not uncommon to see cars lined up out onto the street waiting for their morning cup of Tim Hortons. I think that if the store does not have suitable drive through capacity, they should be fined, or at least fine drivers who are waiting on the street blocking traffic.
Second thing is, do you waste more gas sitting in line, or parking your car, walking inside and then starting your car back up again?
Thoughts? -

I almost always go in to save time.
was just talking with my mom last night about buying pretzels from street-corner vendors in st. louis which I only vaguely remember since I was less than 4 years old. they hawked them at stop signs and she said no one honked/got pissed that she remembered. they were very fast though as you can imagine. -
So you wanna fine successful businesses for being too busy? What kinda commie shit is this?
First World Problem much? Just wake up a half hour earlier for work bro. -
Drive thru you big Canadian moose
:) -
if there are more than 3 or 4 cars in the line, i almost always park the car and walk in - i would think 60 seconds on the break even sounds about right as far as gas consumption goes.
imo if you are going to open a drive through business, you should be required to provide suitable drive through facilities - it's not the public's responsibility to have those cars lined up on the street
bahhhhhhhh - don't ruin my rant -
pretty sure you always use more gas leaving your car running than turning it on and off. especially these days when most new cars are real efficient at starting and whatnot...

i think the thing that you do wear out is your starter, but that lasts quite a while, especially on new cars -

Simple rule for Timmies is this: 6+ cars in the a.m. you are better off parking. someone is always going to order food, and that justr kills the efficiency of the drive through lane. Timmies should ban food sales at the window, unless it's doughnuts which are pre-made. Less than 6 cars, just pull into the drive through lane.

Better off going drive thru. The worst normal wear and tear issue for cars is starting them (primarily because most oil is in the pan at rest).
-
good point.
I agree with Milo - might be a better idea for them to limit the selections in the drive though window to expedite things but i guess if i'm the owner of Tim's i want to sell as much product as i can. Pretty sure each franchise comes complete with a line up of cars at the drive thru window. -
mmmmmmm love me some Gus's Pretzels. Haven't been in far too long.

People who wait in long drive thru lines when there isn't a line inside are just lazy (unless they have a car full of kids). And I think in most places if your traffic reaches into the street you can get fined. -
fuckin canadians

I work effed up shifts, so I don't have to deal with drive thru's at "peak" times
However, timmies coffee sucks dolphin dildo, I always like going to smaller coffee shops for premium coffee.

any place that sells "seatle's best" is ok in my books -
Where does your wife get her donuts? They must be very good

The people causing the traffic disturbance should be ticketed or fined, not the business owner. If the act of fining people causes his business to drop due to people avoiding his restaurant then the market is sending the correct signal to him that it wants a safer location for the traffic they generate. The only way the business owner doesn't get "punished" as well by fining the drivers is if his customers value his service so highly that it offsets any concerns of getting a ticket.

I agree that's how it should be but I don't think that's how it is.

Dyz is correct however if he ever ventured into a Tim Hortons up here he would understand why the cars aren't being ticketed - cops are some of their most loyal customers lol. I've been told that they don't have to pay for their coffee which ensures a police presence at the stores. Not sure if this is fact tho.

Most "experts" will tell you that excessive idling is not good for your engine. I tend to shut the engine off at red lights with "advanced greens" in all directions as I know it is going to be at least a minute before I am going anywhere. It actually does save fuel, I've checked it. One time I did it a Timmies where there was a long (20 cars at least) drive through lane and I was about 15 cars from the box. Lots of horns from the back. Actually explained why to the guy behind me, and he shut his car off, too. Fuck everybody else, they weren't getting to the box any sooner by inching forward one car at a time. Oh, and I never order Timmies coffee, as I hate the bean. Tea, always tea.
Myth . . . I have seen them paying.Originally Posted by saxman

And that is just a standard "unintended consequence" of government and power corrupting. It pays for places like 7-11 or Dunkin Donuts to give away free coffee and food to police because it ensures a certain amount of security presence. Its kind of like "donating" to the local police in exchange for a higher level of service. If the byproduct for this particular location is they keep their paying customers form getting ticketed then it is an even bigger "win" for them.
