This is my golden age for hockey. Yes there was more clutching and grabbing, but people were actually allowed to establish body contact and dominate in front of the net. The star power was ridic..... It just hasnt been the same since the stupid Devils ruined everything good about the sport.
Guys in their prime
Gretzky Lemieux Hull Messier Robitaille Yzerman Neely Oates Gilmour LaFontaine Francis Gartner Housley Bourque Andreychuk Kurri Coffey Kevin Stevens
The Young Guns
Roenick Leetch Recchi Turgeon Sakic Damphousse Fedorov Mogilny Bure Modano Sundin Fluery Selanne Juneau Shanahan Jagr Bondra Lindros
The Goalies
Belfour Richter CuJo Ranford Essensa Vernon Roy Fuhr McClean Hextall Felix the cat Irbe Hasek Brodeur
So glorious....
Tell me Mike Richter isnt one of the most underrated dudes in sports.

I sort of agree but I also disagree, everything seems better when we are kids however there are quite a few exciting up and comers.. just look at the oilers right now alone.. I could sit here and make an identical list like yours but current day in age but thats not the point..
I def appreciate that era and think it'll be the best I will remember as well especially since hockey cards were so in back then too and then you would flick them to play for keeps...
My fav player back then was Paul coffey and fave goalie was Mike Vernon...
sick brag I had 2 personally signed autographs by both of them.. haha remember when you would mail in your hockey cards to get them signed?? -
I understand what you are saying about things seeming better as a kid but todays list will not compete with this....
Gretzky, Messier, Kurri, Lemieux Hull Yzerman with 20 and 21 year olds like Selanne Jagr and Bure absolutely crushing.
I do love the young influx in the league now, I dont get to watch the Oilers much but I do get to watch Tavares a lot and dude is such a sick offensive player. Just I think the overall star power in those days was too much for today's NHL to compete with -
NHL 95 was def the best.
-
teemu scoring 76 goals as a rookie is my favorite nhl stat ever.
-
I agree. The NHL needs more of this...
-
Pavel Bure hasn't even been mentioned once in this thread, which is a joke.
Get your hockey knowledge up to date OT ffs -
yeah this was an awesome era of hockey. I went to many Whalers games with my Dad from 1989 thru 1993 and then Flyers games from 1994 thru 2002. Those Whalers games were epic games going to the playoffs between the Bruins / Whalers 1991 and Canadians / Whalers 1992.

i feel you need to have two teams that can high potential scoring games to make good NHL games. I went to one game against the Sabres and the final score was 6-6, an absolute blast of a game.
At the time of these games you just think wow this game was great and dont realize some eras of sports are just better than others. Im sure the players are better now, especially the goalies since everything evovles but it takes more than great players to make great era/years of hockey. -
