Eli is in Bob Griese territory, and could reach John Elway territory by the time he is done. But no way in hell is he 1st ballot, even if he has 4-6 seasons similar to seasons other than this year.
Here are Eli's major strikes (and comparison to his closest contemporary - Ben Roethlisberger)
69-50 regular season record (compared to Big Ben with a 80-33 regular season record)
3 one and out playoff appearances (Ben with 2 one and out each)
2 Pro Bowls (same as Ben)
1 season with a top 10 passer rating (2011 - 7th), (Ben with 6 seasons - 5 which were 5th or better)
So unless you want to consider Big Ben a first ballot HOF'er (he has a better argument than Eli and I don't think he is close yet), no way Eli is 1st ballot HOF. And he isn't a HOF until he puts in 4-5 more "top 5 QB's in the league" seasons. -
