    Ess is right about the guessing game. Informant's information has to be verified before any seizure. You can't just take any random informant's word to obtain a warrant. Whoever said it's just a guessing game that happens all too often is pretty much clueless.

    The guessing game part is the police "guessing" on whether he is a big time or small time dealer, not the actual part of them obtaining the search warrant.

    Those cliff notes were pretty close. Just missing the part that he thinks his friend snitched on him because he recently got caught with drugs and a gun.

    If anyone knows his real identity, i'd be happy to attempt to learn the true story.

    I'm not saying the cops don't have legit reasons to go to the house, just that they are doing so hoping to nab someone for something more than a small distribution charge.

    It's kinda like the stuff you see on the show Cops. Patrol notices a car driving slowly around in a known drug neighborhood and the cop pulls the guy over for something like "expired registration" most likely "guessing" he'll have drugs/paraphenalia on him.

    If this is what you mean, your initial use of "guessing game" was misleading. Obv no department wants to waste man hours planning a raid/bust to only come up with a small amount of contraband...
