-
How about a system that put together a database of information which can be drawn on when some bureaucrat or law enforcement officer thinks the government has a reason to look into your activities?
-

and fwiw, Blackberrys get around that problem with texts, they control their own network, they encrypt texts as they are sent then decrypt them when received on the other end. They had a bunch of lawsuits with Middle East countries because they couldnt monitor text messages in their country. -

Actually, I have a friend in the business and he told me over a year ago that the way the system works is the program which monitors calls, texts and e-mails has certain "hot" words that when spoken or typed puts the conversation into it's own file to be reviewed. This applies to phone calls, texts and e-mail of every smart phone user/internet forum poster/email sender in the world. Now what those exact "hot" words are I have no idea. But I believe one could imagine which words trigger the system. This has been going on for no less than 6 years. It all started as part of Homeland Security.

I spoke with a friend last night who has been to this facility, and he said what you are describing is how it used to be. He says the point of this place is to grab everything they can, absolutely everything. He also says that the amazing technical part of the system there is not the size of its memory storage, but the fact that the vast majority of information is being stored on a solid state drive, meaning everything can be indexed and accessed instantly.
