  1. Something reminded me of this today...

It has no freggin' alcohol (think: watered down bud light)... our micro brews out here in California and on the west coast stomp on their beers....easily.

I was at an English bar once... this one older man bought like 8 beers before closing time (they close up shop at like midnight like a bunch of pansies)... I asked "where's your friends that you got so many beers?" He said, "There all mine." This was my first bar and my first beer in England ever... and when I drank it I could see why they drink so many beers there- they really do need that many to get drunk.

I told him that if he was at a US micro brewery he'd have no chance at hanging with the boys out there & would probably be under the table... He said I was f-ing crazy and that their beers were full of alcohol...and we don't know shit about beer. Their alcohol content is around 4% or 4.5%... and in some cases less. I dropped a ton of coin on beer because I had to drink so many to get a buzz.

    F the English....
  2. I thought they were all about the same ABV % as Bud, around 5% ish, but could be wrong as I drink mainly Stella.
  3. 4.7% isnt very high but I still love Newcastle

  4. Stella A is tasty.

I also fell in love with a Belgian beer by the name of Leffe.... Outstanding... but then again I did drink about 10 of them so I may be a bit off.... apparently they don't import to the US... so that sucks.

  5. 1."English beer sucks" are you refering to beer or lager??
sounds like lager cos you talk about bud light, but i can't think of any english lagers sold in the uk (that are at all popular) they are all from belgium, france, holland, australlia and the US.

    2. how strong is the lager over there?, we get bud which is 5%, i drink stella which is around 5.4% and thats about as strong as you can go with lager before it tastes like crap. The strongest lagers sold here are 9-11% and thats what the alcoholics drink.

    3. UK will pwn the US in any drinking comp we learn the art of drinking from an early age (12+).

ps. don't even try to out drink someone from scotland.
  6. Im from scotland and I could back you up on this statement.

When I went to santa monica when I was 15, I was drinking all my cousins that where 18+ under the table.

And fuck beer Aftershock and turbo deisels are where its at.
  7. concur

Most Scots drink cheap wine and also shoot brown
  8. Um, this is mostly wrong. A stout usually is about 4% alc. which is a little less than your average american lager which is around 5%. Really, you aren't talking all that big a difference, despite your need to absurdly exaggerate. Now Belgian style beers are a different story.

Of course, only a dumbass would judge beer entirely by its alcohol content. Hell if the goal was to get drunk as quickly and cheaply as possible we would all just find the cheapest vodka we could. But since I actually like drinking beer, I like a lot of English and Irish Beers. Guinness is great, I'm a fan of Smithwicks as well, Bass I'm not as crazy about. I really like the Samuel Smith Porterhouse but that tends to be hard to find on tap here.

Most American Micro Breweries put way too many hops in their beer for my taste. Sam Adams isn't a micro brewery but is a good case in point. Why anyone likes that crap is beyond me. I like beers that tone down the hops and go for a good smooth flavour. I'm a big fan of Clipper City here in Baltimore.
