  1. I'm required to write an essay for my ancient Roman History class that can be on anything in Rome. I'm looking for some interesting, entertaining, outside the box ideas. Can't be a biography. I'll ship $5 on stars to whoever suggests the essay topic I elect to write on. Note: it has to be 5-7 pages and what I write about should be significant, so if you throw out an idea like Ancient Roman Orgies, I need a significance to go along with that, like it improved relations between politicians :-)
  2. Thesis: To what extent did incest, homosexuality, and sexual depravity lead to the downfall of the Roman empire?

  3. They were all homo's so skip the orgy topic.
  4. The vestal virgins, obv.
  5. roman mary vs bible mary

versus papers are usually interesting (as long as you make good points), in-depth enough to do about 6 or 7 pages and relatively easy.
  6. Write about how Nero managed to burn a city full of stone buildings
  7. i think the downfall of rome was actually they couldn't do things for themselves, so they ended up asking everyone (even people they didn't know) for help.

    sad, really
  8. write about how the roman empire as strong it was it collapsed to nothing, interesting enough it was five times stronger then the usa you can right how the states has a smiler fate
  9. Write about the Roman Colliseum, You google it your going to get 1m plus listings and if you wiki it its going to be done for you.
  10. I think you should write about how the Romans invented the Dewey Decimal System before going to the vomitorium.
  11. I had to do this last year. I wrote about the life of a Roman Soldier in times of peace. I know its not too outside of the box...but it was pretty interesting. gl
  12. Write about the different trade guilds. You could compare them to the mafia's role in America during the early 20th century.

  13. ^^^SFObv write about the vomitorium, correlating the extent and eventual decline of two great empires with overeating/eating disorders/etc...
  14. How many 5-year-old Romans could you take in a fight?

Be sure to include such factors as early war training, toughness and pedigree. Because there's no doubt that 5-year-olds in the Roman Empire were substantially better equipped at fighting than 5-year-olds today.

It'd make for a pretty cool essay. Who gives a shit about the grade? You think in ten years your teacher is going to remember any other essay from this class besides yours?
  15. I would write it about the plumbing system (AQUADUCTS) the romans had... some of it is still effective today... pretty sick, imo
  16. how about an analysis of the accuracy of depiction of roman empire in the movies... there's a bunch of em & some will even have some boobies to look at. here's a short list from amazon...

  17. good call, Kajun, I was going to suggest the same thing. a study on the infrastructure of the roman empire (roads, aqueducts) would be interesting.
  18. Nerds.
  19. I loveeeeeeeeeee giga's idea. You can absolutely make that a very "scholarly" article, with a hilarious premise. DO IT DO IT DO IT.
  20. few years ago someone gave me some old roman coins with the dates and emperor on them. fidn out how the fuck they made all those coins back then with all the detail, that woudl interest me actually.
  21. refute the historical accuracy of the movie gladiatior, examples include when they choose live or die-finger up or downw i think was reversed in the movie
  22. Alright, thanks for the input everyone. I'm going to go through and check the sources I can use on those ideas I am considering and will announce the winner and ship the money this evening.

  23. Write about how you believe that the Romans switching to Christianity started its down fall. That should cause some shit.

Or write about was jesus real. How can an empire as big as the roman empire have no clue of the guy, yet they hanged him? Tacitus is the only roman scholar to even make a note of him and he doesnt actually say jesus.

Write about what if the Library hadnt burned. How more advanced would we have been today.
