I mean seriously this is disturbing. The Yellowstone river is home to some of the best river fishing in the US and now it has a substantial amount of oil in the water. These oil companies really need to review their safety measures. -
Drill baby drill

cut all tax credits and loopholes for oil companies and raise the taxes on gas. Then watch America quickly learn how to live without oil. There will be a couple years of struggle but we'll be better in the long run.

maybe that's what needs to happen.

it wouldnt destroy it though. I'm middle class and it wouldn't have a real effect. It would be a great wake up call for people though. -
We should be able to pursue alternative energy efficiently enough in the private sector.
When it becomes profitable that will happen.
Safety measures are key. Oil powers damn near everything and the usa would fn collapse and be in anarchy if we stop drilling. It would not just be a few years of struggle....puhleeze.
Continuing to drill with enhanced safety measures while researching and slowly integrating alternative energy is the right answer -
yea, but you and me live in the city.

take a commuter that makes 30k and drives 50 miles a day. he is losing a decent portion of his disposable income. gas needs to be at about 2.50 if the oligarchs want the economy to pick up. -
My office is 47 miles away. So it's 94 miles a day. Thankfully I only have to go to the office 1-2 times a week. But at least 1-2 days a week I'm driving 25 miles away.

I generally agree with what Preston said. I don't thimk we should stop drilling, but more drilling isn't the answer. A good chunk of oil we have is only profitable to remove when oil prices are at high levels. Its not like we have all this oil we can take out and gas will be 2.00 a gallon. They'd stop drilling if gas fell to those levels because they'd be losing money. -
I agree Dolphin but if OPEC was broken and true oil free market was allowed to operate prices would come down too. But the downside of cheap oil is waste, avoidable pollution and an increased dependency on our crack habit. I still think we need to upgrade our 1960's nuclear technology.

So a pipeline broke - they will fix it. Is this really that big a deal?
