F the iPhone! Advice needed.

    After years of being in love with my Blackberry I gave in to peer pressure and bought the iPhone. Four months later I have an iPhone with a busted screen.

    Should I...

    a.) Replace screen using an outside source. How much does that cost?
    b.) Use my old Blackberry. Even though I had Sprint service with it, will it work with AT&T?
    c.) Cancel my contract (will cost me $155) then burn down the nearest AT&T store to show my displeasure?


    Of course AT&T has been no help at all. The piece-of-shit service is sketchy anyway. Sometimes I get no service at concerts, festivals, and most importantly -- Texas Stadium. Pretty much, anytime there's a crowd of more than 5k people gathered I can count on having shitty service with AT&T.

    The warranty should cover your phone after only 4 months. I got the extended one for mine for about $100 or so. I can throw it against the wall if I want and they'll replace it as long as I have the unit. Only thing it doesn't cover is if it's lost or stolen.

    I was told by AT&T that the warranty is for "anything except accidental damages".

    I was sitting in a restaurant today at lunch. Went to pull my wallet out of my purse and the phone fell out & hit the chair then the floor.

    I was completely sober when it happened. Which really pisses me off. This shit never happens when I'm drunk and can laugh about it.

    I'm still able to use my iPhone so that's good.

    If I wanted to switch to any phone AT&T offers (such as the Droid), I have to pay full price. I don't want to do that. I'd rather just cancel my contract & go somewhere else.

    Try going in and telling them you want to cancel your service. when they ask why explain the situation and perhaps they will make you a deal. If not simply change your mind and don't cancel or do. It doesnt hurt either way.

    I have nothing useful to add other than that I have a Droid Incredible on Verizon and absolutely love everything about it.

    If it is just the glass you can find a place to replace it for 50-100 pretty easy situation. For the dropped calls bit try turning off 3g network first.

    also fwiw its becoming pretty common for tours, and venues to implement cell jamming. churches, theaters etc... i could imagine Jerry blocking cell activity but having wifi for purchase.

    I agree AT&T service is spotty at best but I have a hard time seeing why you hate the iPhone because you broke it.

    Go to the nearest apple store asap they should fix I for u for free. I know of at least three people that have had screens replaced in no time as well

    TX, I replaced my screen myself by buying a 30$ kit off of ebay and doing all the work. Or like you said you can pay 65-85 for a company to do it for you; they're all over the place here.

    The screens are nothing like they used to be. I had the original iPhone that cme out in '07, the 4gig model with aluminum back. I had that thing for 2.5 years, dropped it countless times, threw it out my truck in the raising canes drive thru; threw it against walls in drunken rages, etc. Never one scratch on it. I get the iphone 3gs last summer, first time it falls out my truck the screen shatters. Absolute BS. And the iPhone 4g is supposed to built of helicopter glass or w/e...2 of my friend's screens have cracked already.

    i've dropped mine literally a hundred times on sidewalks, floors, etc and mine doesnt have a scratch (i don't even use a case or skin or anything)

    but then i've heard of some people's breaking after a 1 foot fall. Very strange

    Apple won't recall it because they are trying to say nothing is wrong with the hardware and that the software that shows how many bars you have has always been wrong. Basically they will send a firmware download that will make it so the phones bars don't go away if you touch it's special spot. So lame.

    FWIW I read a story where analysts are saying that if there is a recall it could cost Apple over 1.5 Biilion.
