Pretty sweet setup - wifi, etc. - but p5s is blocked as an "online gaming" site - sfghey - at least I have my phone
-
unlucky, hope you are not selected.
-
tell pauly shore I said whatzup
-
Thats a valid excuse, you should be out of there soon.
-
Seems like I get selected every year and always manage not to have to serve.
-
I almost got to do JD at 26th and California in Chicago last year. We were there for 10 hours, and they decided they had enough people to select from right before they were going to interview my group.
Was a 2nd trial for a gang related drive-by that killed a 6 yr old. They mistried the first one because somebody was trying to take pics of the jury members with a cell phone camera.
I believe the guy ended up getting acquitted, couldn't prove he was the shooter.
Oh, and the process was monotonous as hell, but at least I got $17. -
I had JD at this time last year. Turned out to be a murder trial here in NJ. Went to that shit for 2 weeks until they took the plea deal and are serving 25-life. Was actually pretty interesting experience.
-
I've never once been called for jury duty. You'd think it would've happened by now. Oh well.
**given my profession, even if I got called, I bet I'd be eliminated pretty quickly (social worker) -
I have served on two juries, once as the foreman. It was a little inconvenient, yes, but I found the experience to be extremely rewarding.
-
no way! this is the third time i've been called - sfrigged

i've served on a jury before (initially as the 2nd alternate - talk about frustrating - having to sit through a week-long case without even being able to give your opinion - but 2 other jurors had hardships that came up on the final two days, so i got to be the 12th juror) - i actually enjoyed the experience once i was able to speak :)Originally Posted by Underdog34

i certainly value the process, i was just bitching about having to find a reliable babysitter and having to worry about my nephew
i got called in with a group of 30 at the end of the day for a jury selection - they chose 12, but since the defense attorney hadn't gotten the chance to interview the jury, we all have to go back tomorrow and see if anyone else gets dismissed - they're pretty hardcore about jury duty down here - the only person that was dismissed was a man stating that he could not participate due to his religious beliefs, specifically that if there were not three witnesses to an event, you cannot hold it to be true - as the state had only one direct witness, he was excused - but only after a lengthy and interesting discussion/argument with the judge
i got my mother-in-law to clear her calendar for the next 2 days in case i do somehow end up being on this jury (they claimed that it would likely take a day, possibly 2) and both of my parents will scramble around tomorrow to make sure my nephew isn't left alone and doesn't fall further behind in his schoolwork - i just hate inconvienencing everyone else - i would have no problem doing it if it was just me to consider -
so this splains why you weren't on fv today....i've always wanted to be a juror on a murder trial.
-
Once here...and was the foreman.

Was a very interesting experience...we only had a civil case (insurance claim) for some accident that happened over a decade ago.
If I'm ever called again, I really hope it's something criminal. -
hee hee - yeah, i was only on this morning, then ended up chatting with this guy who is close friends of a family member (talk about small world!) before getting to go sit in a hallway for an hour and a half, then a courtroom for another hour

i must admit, the jury suite in the new courthouse is top-notch - they have a business center with wifi and computers, ipods you can check out with informational audiobooks on the gov't and law, full vending, a gameroom with videogames (including ms. pac man/galaga) and a pool table, board games and cards, flat screens everywhere and free popcorn in the afternoon with 2 movies - pretty wild and much different from the last time i went -
hey piga, what happens if you toss the letter and dun show up?
-
i'm not sure how it goes down exactly (and obv it may vary), but here i think they can send a sheriff out to your house to issue you a warrant (? something like that) and can fine you or even give you jail time for failure to appear
-
wow seriously that's messed up, hmmm cuz I did toss a letter I think was for jury duty and nothing happened course I was living in another city at the time, anyone know how to check and see if there's a warrant out on you?
-
well, if you weren't living there, you obv don't have to appear - they likely would figure that out upon investigation - doubt you'll get in trouble, but might wanta check just to be sure
-
hmm it was like five years ago and at the time it was my legal residence, eh I'm not gonna worry bout it
-
got summed for jury duty for a grand jury 2 months ago - they said you would serve once a week for 17 weeks. thank god im a student and got out of it
-
Jeez sweet brag about having top notch accommodations. I just did jury duty and they wouldnt let u bring cell phone in. Not was their anything resembling a business center. I got caught up on all the recent Time Magazines tho,
-
lol beki, everytime I read your posts I feel like slapping your buttcheeks you're just so damn fkn cute. (I abandoned fv, taking up too much time)

and last year I met a woman who's sister had been on jury duty during the OJ trial. LOL OMG she said it ruined her life, lost her job, etc etc. Imagine getting one of those! JuryDuty cat does not want! -
pm vid of said spanking immfosmfimmedobvstandard
-
lol - yeah, the setup is kinda silly (esp considering the city is going through a huge budget crunch and has to shut down half the libraries, as well as cut a bunch of other services right now) - seems a bit excessive that the headphones for the ipods you can rent out (not a generic mp3 player that would be cheaper) are $100 headphones - plus they had over half a dozen flatscreen tv's, etc. - don't get me wrong, it is a very nice facility (esp considering the jury "suite" in the old courthouse consisted of a single room full of uncomfortable chairs and an old busted tv with a vcr) - i'm just not sure if the money was really spent very wisely
-
there's gotta be a statute of limitations on that kinda thing - 5 yrs? i doubt i'd worry about it - but don't ignore a jury summons! they CAN take that shit seriously and give you a big hassle over it - guess you got lucky
-
bumping this bc it's only thread that came up when i searched jury duty... had to call friday and they said call monday afternoon and be ready to possibly come in within 45 mins.. really not sure what to expect, will i most likely need to go in monday and for how long? and what are the chances i have to serve and how long is that usually? i'm sure there is no clear cut answers to this but any help i would really appreciate i'm in a poker competition that starts wednesday when ftops starts and i am really hoping i dont have to miss any of that.
thanks
