  1. I took an open spot in a buddy's keeper league this offseason and with keepers due in a week I wanted to get some opinions.

The league keeps 5 every year and has the following stats(not listing pitching stats as we have zero keepers):

    Batting Categories Setting

    1B - Singles 1 point
    2B - Doubles 2 points
    3B - Triples 3 points
BB - Walks (Batters) 1 point
CS - Caught Stealing -.5 points
CYC - Hitting for the Cycle 45 points
GDP - Ground Into Double Plays -.25 points
GSHR - Grand Slam Home Runs 10 points
HP - Hit by Pitch 1 point
HR - Home Runs 4 points
    R - Runs 1 point
RBI - Runs Batted In 1 point
SB - Stolen Bases 2 points

    and has the following positions:
    C
    C
    1b
    2b
    SS
    3b
    OF
    OF
    OF
    OF
    OF
    DH
    U

I have 3 absolute no brainers in Kinsler, Pedroia, and Longoria as well as being 90% set on keeping Napoli

so out of the following what are my other two?
    Napoli
    Carl Crawford
    Shin Soo-Choo
    Emilio Bonifacio
    Aramis Ramirez

like i said I'm most likely going Napoli and then stuck between Crawford Ramirez and Choo in that order. This league is extremely high on OF and most of the top tier is going to be kept, meaning not much value in the draft.
  2. Crawford and napoli

Id try and trade one of your second basemen for someone that can help you more at another position since you wont be getting full value out of one of them from the utility spot.

  3. I'm on the same thinking line as you but was going to wait untill after the draft to see what needs to be addressed.

Just got offered this tho. Trout and beltre for longo.. thoughts?

  4. I wouldnt do that trade. You got a sure thing in a 26 year old Longoria. Trout might be able to live up to the hype but maybe not. I remember when everyone said Brandon Wood was the next A-Rod. Things dont always pan out. Besides it might be another 3-4 years before he starts putting up big numbers, not sure how long you plan on being in this league. Either way im sticking with Longoria. And Beltres not as good a keeper at a Dominican age of 33 as Crawford or Napoli imo.

  5. With the stats you listed stolen bases being worth 2 points jumped out at me. I think that is a little bit broken tbh. With that in mind I would keep Crawford. Do you not have to worry about what round you drafted them in? If not, how can you keep anyone but Crawford? I know he had a down year but he is still an elite player.
  6. Multiyear contract league

Here are the players I have coming back.

    C - Wieters
    1B - Pujols
    2B - Utley
    3B - Miguel Cabrera
    SS -
    OF - Josh Hamilton
    OF - Jacoby Ellsbury
    OF - Desmond Jennings
    Util - Brett Lawrie
    SP - Strasburg
    RP - Papelbon

I could franchise Street, Ian Kennedy, or Mariano. Who do I keep. I stream pitching, and yes I won the league last year with my hitting.
  7. Don't you auto keep Ian Kennedy?
  8. def. crawford and napoli esp with the 2 catcher league. don't give up on crawford- guy had one bad albeit very bad year. def. agree with above poster on trying to move one of your 2b after the draft to fill in holes where you are weak.

that's pretty much what I thought but figured I'd ask and see what others thought.
  10. crawford and napoli
  11. I'd keep Crawford and Choo, Catchers are inconsistent unless you have a top one. Choo is a stud OFer in a points league

i was going to say it is close w choo but i think w 2 catcher spots that having a catcher who will hit you 25 HRs, score 80 runs, have 80 rbis and hit .270 is important. hitting in that park and being able to DH/ play 1B will get him more ABs, plus that lineup is stacked.

Napoli has 4 straight seasons of over 20 homeruns and hit 320 last season. Even if you take his career 162 game average of 264/32/85 thats amazing for a catcher. I think hes easily a top 5 catcher this season and hes only 29. Choo on the other hand is coming off an injury plagued season. His career year is 300/22/90 thats real good, but calling him a stud is a bit of a stretch. He did steal 20 bases in back to back years but I think as his age goes up that number will go down. I would say hes a top 20 outfield this year. Between the two Ill take the top 5 catcher all day. I will admit though i've never played in a points league not sure how much that dynamic changes things.

  14. Got offered beltre, Carlos gonzales, and a 4th round pick for longoria and my 3 round pick. I have first pick in a snake draft.

So my 5 keepers would be: kinsler, pedroia, choo, cargo, and napoli. Then probably taking beltre or best option # 1. Thoughts?
