so i am in the semi finals of my fantasy football league. we have a no roster adjustment after the final week. the only caveat is if your player is injured you can make a switch. i received a text from my opponent (who happens to be my cousin) that he emailed the commish to switch out kyle orton for josh freeman. i was down 58-0 going into today and thought nothing of it. Well, it turns out I wound up losing 184-183. The other two teams in the other playoff matchup scored 112 and 125 so fml right lol. anyway i check the box score and try to see where i screwed myself over this year and notice that orton was dressed and was the emergency qb. do i have a gripe? does that fact that its my cousin matter? this is my 3rd year in this league and this has never come up b4. ne thoughts would be appreciated.
-
You can't have a gripe because you received the text and said nothing beforehand.
-
You cant change your lineup?
That sounds like the dumbest rule ever. -
What about my situation.. semi finals.. I am #1 seed... we are both tied exactly right now. He has no one left to play I have AP scheduled to play tomorrow... do i just bench him so that he doesn't fumble and get injured and i lose a point and don't make it to the finals? Or do i play it normal and start him hoping that he gains some points and i win it out right or still end up tying he gets 0 points and i advance because I am the higher seed?
-
Orton was injured, right? How strict is this substitute via injury rule in your league? If a guy is doubtful does that count? Or does he have to be listed as "out"? Aaron Rodgers was listed as doubtful. Was his team allowed to sub him out?
according to your rules:Originally Posted by DBQB4873

sit him - advance 100% of the time
play him - advance 99.98% of the time
seems easy to me. -
your tied? Do you win the tiebreaker?

I still play him tho. Id hate to lose cause they change the scoring after monday or some shit. I tied once this year because of that. Was winning 100-97 when the game ended. Woke up, and i tied 97-97. -
ahhh shit i didn't think about scoring changes... i guess i'll wait right before the game and hope there was no scoring changes to decide whether to sit him or not.... and ya i read the rules on espn.com for playoff ties and it says the higher seed advances
-
Yes, scoring changes can come on ESPN as late as the middle of Monday/Tuesday night, so you gotta play him I think. Very little chance he gets less than 4 points which will give you a cushion in case of scoring changes.

yea, no way i risk it and bench him.

orton was dressed and the emergency qb. which means he was available. the rule is not written newhere other than on the commish message for the week "only injury moves are allowed." i guess it is a debate between the spirt of the law and the letter of the law.

Actually that sounds like a helluva an idea. You draft a full roster of like 2 QB, 3 RB, 3 WR, 2 TE, 1 flex, 2 K, 2 DEF. Everybody starts; no bench spots; no waivers. Let the bodies hit the floor.
Not 100%. In week 13, opponent was up 1 on me. I had nobody left, so he benched Woodhead before MNF. The next day, Mike Williams got a 2 point stat adjustment and I won by 1. So if anything it's like 99.99% to 99.98%.Originally Posted by 1.21Gigawatts

Benching players to clinch a win is generally done more in fantasy baseball where 1 bad game can greatly skew ERA or WHIP. Negative points is rarely a concern in football. -
I picked up Joe Webb this week and was going to start him at my Flex if need be tonight. Instead I am up by 1 and I am starting Sidney Rice instead. If I didn't have a replacement would it have been a dick move sitting Webb? I know the risks of the scoring adjustments but lets assume the score was set.

hey i guess i should i explain the setup for our league
its a 8 team keeper league
there is no bench
u start 2 qb, 3 rb, 5 wr, 1 te, 2 k, 2 dst
u can put people on ir for as long as they are inactive or pickup and drop as necessary. no bench players
the week b4 playoffs, rosters lock. no pickups unless there is an injury.
***update*** got an email from the commish and he tells me orton was deactivated. according to cbs sportsline, he was active and listed as the 3rd qb. any denver fans know if he was dressed? his email was short and unapologetic. i am little more tilted than before lol -
Well despite your league being dumb, I would side with Freeman being allowed. 3rd QBs are not considered part of the active roster/45 man roster and if he were to play it would mean the other two QBs would be in active. Therefore Orton was not active for the game yesterday
-
thank you for the insight
i like the league setup just because it is different. i play in 2 ppr league and 2 other standard leagues. its just another format to shake it up. it is frustrating when u like to play matchups but i guess that is the point. -
Playing fantasy football without the ability to play matchups is basically the skill equivalent of flipaments.
-
3rd QBs are deactivated on game day. this might help you......
accept defeat.
Broncos inactives yesterday.
K Matt Prater, S Brian Dawkins, RB Laurence Maroney, CB Cassius Vaughn, OL Eric Olsen, WR Demaryius Thomas, LB David Veikune and QB Kyle Orton (third QB). Dec 19, 2010 / 2:56 pm et -
A league I used to run had a similar rule - no free agent pickups in the postseason unless you had a player that was out, but for the rest of the year (IR). It sucked when players (like say Favre) were likely out for the rest of the season, but wasn't placed on the IR. So we got rid of the rule, but charged extra for free agent pickups.
He was in uniform and was available to play. Technicality that they call it inactive, but it should have been clearly stated one way or another in the league rules.
