SAN FRANCISCO -- Federal officials are warning California medical marijuana dispensaries they must shut down within 45 days or face criminal prosecution and having their property confiscated.

The state's four U.S. attorneys sent letters Wednesday and Thursday notifying at least 16 pot shops or their landlords that they are violating federal drug laws, even though medical marijuana is legal in California. The attorneys are to announce their coordinated crackdown at a Friday news conference.

  2. wtf. Canada is looking more and more like a viable option

  3. My cousin will need to find new clients. This is such bullshit.
  4. bullshit
  5. So are the targeting specific dispensaries or all of them?

  6. Uh oh.
  7. the rest of the country is about to be flooded with good nuggets for a few months but yeah this is some bull shit
  8. just bought a can of cali. theres been a lot around here lately

  9. fuck this damn country. First pokerstars and now medical marijuana.
  10. america, land of the free, home of the brave

    yup
  11. For years one of the main arguments against dispenseries in LA was that they were magnets for criminal activity. Then the Rand corp published a preliminary study showing that crime had not increased around dispenseries.

The Feds have had a hard on for Cali pot for years; its a long sordid story.
  12. So where are we supposed to get our weed now? I don't like drug dealers.

Edit: And in all honesty, I don't even know a single drug dealer...

  13. Again, I am pro-drug. However, it's getting out of control, much like painkillers in Florida. These shops are providing for much more than those in medical need.
  14. 45 days is about right for the peeps currently on the bloom cycle. pretty considerate of the feds to allow crops to finish up.

u cant triple stamp a double stamp, lloyd.

  15. Umm...I thought Obama was pro-weed? Why is he directing the DOJ to target specific dispensaries?

  16. Well there goes any chance California had of balancing its budget.

From the OP it says 16 of them, so apparently just a few specific ones...but still, this is some bullshit

edit: also, this and the Black Friday crackdown have me really questioning my ambition to become an AUSA...do US attorneys really have nothing better to do than go after medical marijuana and online poker???

  18. That's what I read too Superemo. Could be that there were specific Federal violations (much like the pain clinics in Florida). They may not be stopping it all, just a handful of "chronic" violators.

  19. "The state's four U.S. attorneys sent letters Wednesday and Thursday notifying at least 16 pot shops or their landlords that they are violating federal drug laws, even though medical marijuana is legal in California."

Bolded the key words in the article. At least 16 means they probably notified all of them, but only 16 were motivated enough to check the mail today.
  20. occupycalifornia
  21. just visited my buddy in LA in August too... was thinking how much appeal Cali had gained... now this.

I'm sure they'll organize a protest, but then get high, forget about it and then spend the rest of the afternoon eating funions trying to remember what they had to do that day.
  26. Some more of that hope and change

  27. "Holder said he made a decision early on that the scarce federal resources would not be used in going after the people who used marijuana according to their state's laws.

"To treat chronic illnesses, to alive pain from live-ending illnesses, but made clear that we were not going to allow those laws to be used in a way to cover activity that was criminal in nature," Holder said."

    Eric Holder February 9, 2011

lol Never said he wouldn't go after the dispensaries
