Just found out from the bank that i got approved for a home loan. Pretty big deal to me considering my credit isnt great and i make like ~22k a year. Im excited since ive kinda been stuggling with money lately and have had to move us(wife and daugher) into my parents house. Im also pretty excited because i have gone to look at homes before but never with the actual thought of "hey i can buy that one".
-
you make 22K/year and ur gonna buy a house?
I wouldnt even a buy a car if I made that. -
I'm happy for you but I don't know how this is possible unless Oprah cosigned on the loan.
-
might be a sign we are back to the lending and borrowing that put us in this mess
-
That is great newzzzzzz. No better feeling than owning your own home.
<STRIKE>question tho.....not great credit, make around 22k, how were u able to obtain a home loan, esp during these times?</STRIKE> <STRIKE> Either way,</STRIKE> grats -
Congrats man.
No offense though, this kind of shit is what got us into this mess. On one hand I'm happy you can give your family a home, on the other I viscerally hate you. -
So you make 22k, have been struggling with money lately, and got approved for a loan? And you think this is good? Oh my head.
-
I went to the bank and sat down and talked to the lady that ran that department. She gave me a list of everything that i needed to bring in. Things like my past months worth of pay stubs and 3 bills that ive been paying for over a year. She called back in 2 weeks telling me i was approved.

When i said my credit wasnt great I meant that it isnt bad at all. But it isnt great. I have no outstanding debts, and a car payment and insurance, and 2 phones. thats really all my bills atm besides groceries. -
Congratulations!!

i guess i shouldve just left out how much i make. lol @ thinking id buy a house if i couldnt afford it. It can be done. Just dont understand all the hate in this thread. -
What's the interest rate, and is it fixed?
-
Congrats buddy, happy for ya
-
yup, no one has ever bought a house then had it forclosed
you make 1800 a month, have a car and two phones, lets say that is 300 a month, + inusurance, 400 maybe
1400 - utilties groceries, 400 min.
1000 - mortgage = like 100$ a week to save and spend, yikeeeeeees -
It's not hate, it's a deep sense of unease that is justifiable. I'm happy for you and I hope you are able to manage it, but all the same, when I read your OP I shat bricks.

ok fine, ill break it down:

$1800 a month is about correct
$235 car payment
$80 insurance
$60 phones
that comes to $375
Mortgage will only be around $600 since well hopefully be buying a foreclosed home or a bank owned home. They are usually much cheaper. Also keep in mind since its the first house im buying im not looking for anything extravagant. Just something to get my family in, in a decent neighborhood. We obv have standards about the house but arent looking to spend a shit load of money on it.
And i mean if my wife has to get a part time job then there wont be a problem with that. Sorry i forgot to mention that before, its just not going to happen unless it really has to happen. -
22k a year would get me fuckin no where in San Jose
-
most of those homes are not move in ready, and what if something breaks or something happens, hope you have like 10 years salary saved up

whats the price range ur looking at?
-
I can get something pretty nice in a good neighborhood for ~100k right now. I got approved for more than that but im going to look for something less than that because ive seen nice houses for sale for around 60k, which is what im hoping for. My wifes aunt is a real estate agent who is going to help us out a lot in finding one.

Congrats! I remember how excited I was when I bought my first house. Best of luck
